Meet Our Mascot Aspen! |
April 15, 2007 |
Who is that smiling Pit on the ROVERlution banner? Her name is Aspen and up until a few weeks ago she was just another pretty face. But last month Aspen was "confiscated" from her home in the City of Independence, Missouri. Animal Control came and took the dog in front of the kids who grew up with her. Her family is in a panic and devastated. What Happened? Her family adopted Aspen from Missouri Pit Bull Rescue (MPR) four years ago but could not register her when the ban passed in Independence last October because they could not meet the crazy requirements demanded by the city in order to grandfather in blacklisted dogs (such as a 6 foot privacy fence buried two feet underground). When the legislation was approved last fall, (in yet another city gone bad) Aspen became the victim of a dog hunt. Without incident, a neighbor acting as an informer notified authorities about Aspen. She was simply the "wrong breed". Animal Control dutifully took the innocent dog by seizure. Aspen spent a few days in doggy jail while everyone frantically tried to find a solution for her. Fortunately, Aspen is now in foster care with friends of her family (out of Independence). Aspen's family has put their house up for sale and hope to be able to move out of this place sooner or later. But for now, they can only wait and hope to be reunited with their beloved dog Aspen. |

Mad as Hell! Aspen is the perfect example of how insane and cruel breed bans are. She's a "friendly couch potato who would not hurt a fly", according to her fans. But the truth did not prevent Aspen from being heartlessly pulled from the arms of her loving family and forced into custody by animal control-- putting her life in danger at the shelter once again! Aspen has truly earned the rank of the ROVERlution mascot. Let this story remind all of us of why WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THIS WAR IS WON! ROVELUTION MARCHES AGAINTS UNFAIR LEGISLATIONS
