Story: Just before Thanksgiving, MPR received this plea: "Dear MPR, Boy does this lovely dog need help -- and so do I.... I found her and her 7 pups under a culvert this morning. I live about 7 miles south of Warrensburg in a rural area. The mom is starved down but has given it all to the fat, healthy babies. Although frightened and protective of her babies, she appears to be responsive and friendly. She has old collar scars on her neck but no collar now, no tags. I am NOT the household for her (4 aged cats) but could not leave her to die. Can you PLEASE HELP ASAP! I don't want to take her and her desperate family to the local animal pound."
This post came in just as the weather dropped in November - Down to 20 degrees at night... As always full but eager to help, MPR once again made a miracle happen and managed to find an emergency foster home for the whole little gang. On Thanksgiving day, a very dedicated volunteer drove several hours to pick up the little gang and bring them to safety. They will never spend a night in the cold again.
How Can YOU Resist That Sweet Face?
Foster Situation: Apple is currently fostered with her litter-sister,
Candied Yam. They have also been introduced to our two adult dogs, and all get along well. They have had limited interactions with our cat, but do not seem interested in her. The cat is now comfortable sleeping on the back couch when the dogs are quietly playing! Apple and Candy currently share one larger wire crate. All meals and treats are given in the crate. Apple has a large fenced yard to run in, but is never allowed
outside without supervision.
Snuggling!
Training: Apple is learning to "go to your house" when its time to crate up. We are working on housetraining. Apple loves to chew, and we are working on what is a toy, and what is not.
"Okay, no more pictures!"
Personality: Apple is very outgoing and fun. She loves to chase leaves
in the back yard. Applecrumb has unlimited energy, and often wakes up
her sister when she is sleeping. Apple loves chew toys, chasing tennis
balls, and playing tug-o-war with Candy. Apple and Candy love to curl up
in a puppy pile when they are tired to sleep, it's so cute!
Best Attribute: The best thing about Apple is the pouty faces she makes. Apple and Candy do love to take turns playing chase in the backyard, which is so funny! They are still clumsy so they are always good for a laugh.
Will you love me?
