Baraka sure has come a long way. In just a few months, thanks to love and good care, she went from a pathetic tired mama dog, to a healthy red beauty. As shown in the pictures above, her transformation was quite spectacular. Seeing Baraka today, you would never know she is the same dog pulled from deathrow, emaciated, malnourished and with all hope gone. The Baraka of today is a happy-go-lucky dog who definitely knows how to appreciate life and the precious chance she was given thanks to MPR. |
Story: Baraka was rescued from animal control after being confiscated as a cruelty case. She came from a sad situation where she was bred over and over again. Her body suffered from the constant breeding. She was tied on a chain and still had the mark in her fur. She was found thin and debilitated with a patchy coat, showing that the brave mama dog had given all her strength to her puppies.
All the heartaches and sadness are behind her now. Baraka has become a beautiful red princess, with a nice, silky coat. One thing that has remained the same however, is the sweet expression in her eyes.

Foster Situation: Baraka is in a foster home with two children, one male Pit Bull and one male Pomeranian. She adores the kids, does very well with both dogs and for the most part, is ok with other dogs after a calm introduction with firm expectations.
She loves to run in the fenced back yard and she loves to go for walks with her doggy friends. Walking by herself is not as fun! She travels well in the car and copes with a crate when alone in the house, though she still gets a little anxious when no one is home. She feels more secure in a crate than lose in the house.
Baraka obviously prefers to be with people all the time and will follow her foster family wherever they go in the house, hoping not to miss a pet or a treat.

Baraka loves to sleep on the bed or in her special chair. Usually she is a couch potato and a cuddler but one or twice a day, she wants to play with other dogs or humans, go for a walk or chase a toy. She loves to run and have fun! She is like a small Hooch (from the movie Turner and Hooch). If you are sitting, you simply must be petting her or she will paw to get your attention.

Training: Baraka sits, catches, and walks well on a leash. She is learning lie down. She is very responsive and submissive.
Personality: She is a cuddly couch potato with a daily burst of energy. She loooooooooves kids and constant petting. She is usually laid back but can be assertive if challenged by other dogs. Once she caught a bird (but did not kill it) so we know she can move quickly if motivated by prey or food. She is always happy and eager to please. When she wants attention she will paw your arm or gently pull on your clothes or just hold them in her mouth. When she is getting her leash on for walks, she carries a stuffed bear around in her mouth to keep from pulling herself or the other dogs around by their leashes in her excitement.

Best Attribute: Baraka is very loving. She wants to be with her people, always cuddling and petting. You can see on her eyes that she can’t believe her good fortune at going from a tied-on-a-chain breeding machine who never got attention, to being a beloved family member. Baraka is a very easy dog, no trouble at all, great with children, gentle and patient. She would do well in just about any home who is looking for a non challenging companion. There has to be someone, somewhere that will see the beauty in her heart and give her a chance... |
