Story: Just before Thanksgiving, MPR received this plea: "Dear MPR, Boy does this lovely dog need help -- and so do I.... I found her and her 7 pups under a culvert this morning. I live about 7 miles south of Warrensburg in a rural area. The mom is starved down but has given it all to the fat, healthy babies. Although frightened and protective of her babies, she appears to be responsive and friendly. She has old collar scars on her neck but no collar now, no tags. I am NOT the household for her (4 aged cats) but could not leave her to die. Can you PLEASE HELP ASAP! I don't want to take her and her desperate family to the local animal pound."
This post came in just as the weather dropped in November - Down to 20 degrees at night... As always full but eager to help, MPR once again made a miracle happen and managed to find an emergency foster home for the whole little gang. On Thanksgiving day, a very dedicated volunteer drove several hours to pick up the little gang and bring them to safety. They will never spend a night in the cold again.
How Can YOU Resist That Sweet Face?
Foster Situation: Candy is currently fostered with her litter-sister, Apple Crumb. They have also been introduced to our two adult dogs, and all get along well. They have had limited interactions with our cat, but do not seem interested in her. The cat is now comfortable sleeping on the back couch when the dogs are quietly playing! Candy and Apple currently share one large wire crate. All meals and treats are given in the crate. Candy has a large fenced yard to run in, but is never allowed outside without supervision.
Too Cute!!!
Training: Candy is learning to "go to your house" when its time to crate up. We are working on housetraining. Candy loves to chew, and we are working on what is a toy, and what is not.
Content
Personality: Candy is a playful couch potato. After a short run around the backyard, she will ask to be picked up or sit on the couch to "hang out" with you. Candy enjoys chew toys and romping with her sister, but
she is happy laying beside the humans playing with her toys, sleeping, or just observing.
Best Attribute: Candy and Apple do love to take turns playing chase in
the backyard, which is so funny! They are still clumsy so they are
always good for a laugh. Candy is very snuggly as well.
Will you love me?
