    UPDATE January 21, 2010

Thought I would go ahead and send these pics from our time over the holidays. We spent about 10 days at our parents back "home" and Capt. was spoiled rotten. My parents built a fence just for him and Sami, and he was in heaven.

Let me explain some of the pictures. One is of Captain and his grandpa in the backyard after their daily morning run....Capt. is chewing on a stick and is so happy! Then you have Capt. and his grandpa taking a nap. Another one is of Capt. and Sami begging for their grandmother (who usually feeds them table scraps even though I tell her not to) to let them lick her bowl. Grandparents are so weak :-). The other pictures include us just hanging out, and then there's one of my brother giving him a bear hug. Needless to say everyone just adores him, and thinks he's just a lovable goof. He is officially a member of the family and we couldn't be more thrilled.

    Meet hunky Captain Jack!

He was found as a stray by animal control and never claimed by anyone. The vet estimates he's around 2-3 years old and he weighs at about 60 lbs or so.

Gorgeous Smile! | "Kisses, please!" | Handsome Guy

Foster Situation: Captain is currently being fostered in a home with another female American Bulldog/Pit Mix. We are still in the "introductory" phase. When not together, the dogs are seperated by either Captain's kennel or a babygate. Since he has arrived he has not shown any aggression towards our female dog. They lick eachother through the kennel or babygate, and sometimes he'll come up and sniff her when we have them on leashes. More than anything it seems like he just wants to play! He is so playful and sweet.

My husband and I go on two walks a day with both dogs, and we have not had a problem with him being aggressive towards her during any outing we've been on. We live in an apartment so Captain is learning all the "house rules". He sits before we put his leash on for a walk (and to take the leash off), he also sits when he gets his food, and is close to mastering "stay" and "lay down". He does a pretty good job walking on a leash, and is trained with the "Gentle Leader". He has done a great job learning to walk on a leash.

He loves going outside and taking walks. He also loves riding in the car. He sticks his whole head out the entire car ride. We have taken a couple drives with him and he is just in heaven! When my husband or myself are away from home, we put him in his kennel. He does very well in a crate and it doesn't take a lot of persuading to get him to go in. His kennel is also where he sleeps at night. We have him positioned facing the bedroom so he can see us at night and he doesn't feel isolated. He never whines during the night, and waits patiently for us to get him in the morning for our walk! He loves to be around everyone (including our other dog). He is a big sweetheart that wants to be cuddling or playing with one of us at all times. Cap'n likes to be right in the middle of things:)!

Training: Captain is very smart and eager to please. Since being in our home he has not had any accidents and has picked up on our doggie house rules pretty easily.

We have learned he is very motivated by food, and loves his treats:)! We request that he sits before leaving the house with us for our walks, before giving him food, and before giving him affection (the majority of the time but it is hard since he's just a sweetie!). We are always working with him and challenging him to learn. He is currently mastering "stay" and "lay down" in addition to leash training.

Irresistible | Hunky Boy! | Beautiful Eyes

Personality: Captian Jack is definitely outgoing and anything but shy. He sees everyone we pass by as a potential playmate. He always seems to be in a good mood and will entertain himself by playing with his toys. He's just a big goofball! Because of his playful nature he can be a little rambunctious, but once he is told to stop he stops.

Something we love about Captain is that he doesn't ever jump on visitors! He is very polite, doesn't bark, and wil eagerly await affection from the visitor. We do not have any children in the home so we are unsure how he could react to children. Based on his personality and the way he responds to people, we feel he would do great.

Captain has a prey drive. When we go for walks, he will become very focused if he sees other animals. We are working on this to make him more resonsive.

During the day Captain is either laying down in his crate, roaming around the living room, or playing with his toys. He likes to tear them apart, and it usually doesn't take him too long. He does a great job of knowing what he can and can't tear apart! He doesn't chew or tear anything he's not suppose to. He only sticks to his toys.

Capain Jack also loves cuddling. His favorite place it seems is right on top of us on the couch. He will just lay there and sleep for hours as long as we're all together. He is such a loving dog.

    Standing | Nice Sit | Kiss-a-Bull Face

Best Attribute: The best trait in Captain Jack is his irresistable charm. He always looks like he's got a goofy grin plastered across his face, and it seems like just being around him can bring a smile to your face. He is full of joy, and that joy definitely becomes contagious!

Another aspect of his personality that we just love is his eagerness to learn and please us. He's always looking to us for affection, praise, and leadership, which any dog owner knows is very important. Captain was put on this earth to bring a breath of fresh air into someone's life. He would be great for someone that can give him lots of attention and love! He needs to be in a family where he truly is considered a member in every way.
