Eli came to us from Fair Grove, Missouri, about 25 miles northeast of Springfield.  He had roamed onto a couples rural property where he was at risk of being shot.  MPR was contacted and Eli is now safe in the program.

Eli was found dirty, with multiple flea and tick bites, and looked like he’d not been fed in quite some time.  Once we gave him a couple of baths, some Frontline, and regular feedings, he’s blossomed into a great looking little guy!  He’s just as happy and friendly as can be!

Great Focus! | Nice Sit | Happy Boy | Resting

Foster Situation: Eli is fostered with two other pit bulls.  He plays nicely with our two year old male and 3 year old female.  He has not been exposed to cats but has showed interest in chasing birds and rabbits that he encounters when we go on walks.  We go on daily walks/runs and he’s working on leash training. He does very well when he’s walked with our two other dogs.  When he is walked by himself he seems to forget his manners and chooses to stop and sniff a lot.

Eli has not been exposed to young children yet, though we believe he would do fine with them.  He has not shown any signs of human or animal aggression.

Nice Eli | What a smile | Beautiful Eli | Laying down

We live in a suburban, residential area.  Eli has been to the pet store once, he was fine meeting people and was fine with the various stimuli.  Eli has only been in the car once, and that was when we first picked him up.  He had some apprehension about getting in the back of our SUV, and had to be lifted in.  He was receptive to the dog harness/seat belt we put on him, and was mellow for most of the ride.

Eli sleeps in his crate at night, as well as when we’re not home.  He’s not has any accidents in his crate, and rarely whines or barks.  He took some coaxing to enter the crate for the first few days that we had him, but will now enter willingly for a treat.

I believe that Eli would be happy in a home as a single dog or with another “four-legged sister ”…

He likes to play with toys and go on walks, so an active owner would be great.  So far, he’s been a pretty low maintenance dog… not bad for a first time foster family!

Simply Irresistible | "Hey, What's This?" | Good Looking Boy | So cute!

Training: Eli knows to sit for treats, but occasionally has to be reminded to take treats “gentle”.  He is doing well with crate training, and will follow the treat into the crate.  He has not had any accidents in the house, although he marks outside.  He doesn’t seem to know any tricks… or maybe we’re just not giving him the right commands ;).  He is a good combination of playful and mellow.  He is also very “treat eager” so I think he would do well with training.  Now that he is learning his name, he is quite obedient.

Yummy | Handsome Boy | Smart Eli | Irresistible smile | On the floor

Personality: Eli is outgoing and playful, but seems to know how to settle down and entertain himself with a bone or ball.  Unlike our other two dogs, he does not attempt to get on the furniture. We’ve not had him around young kids, but I anticipate that he would do fine around them.  Other than marking over the other two dogs’ spots in the yard, he has not show any signs of dominance.  He’s still young, so he is “puppy playful” and kind of awkward.  He seems to be willing to take on anything that we’ve thrown his way thus far.

Too Cute! | Halloween Costume | Hamming It Up | Gentleman Eli

Best Attribute: Eli has a great personality.  His ability to recuperate and maintain a happy disposition after the apparent neglect he suffered, is admirable.  Although probably a mix, he’s a great testament to the pit bull breed.  He has beautiful coloring and an athletic build that makes him a handsome dog.  His black eye mask gives him a unique look and makes his eyes stand out.  Eli’s ready to love and find a forever family that loves him in return.
