UPDATE FROM MOM: (10/23/06)
I saw your success stories page and thought I would go ahead and share
mine. :) I adopted Fagan, a mastiff/lab mix, almost a month ago as of
this writing, and I couldn't be happier with him! I don't have any
pictures currently, but I wish I had one to send because he is literally
the most beautiful dog I have ever known.
I'm 21 years old, and my father and I have always both loved dogs. I
grew up constantly surrounded by two or three. But this year, just 2
months before my birthday, I lost my father unexpectedly. Shortly after
that my beloved chow-mix, Lexus (who'd been with me since I was 11),
was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Her condition progressed rapidly and
I had to have her put down.. leaving me in the middle of a shattered
family life and without any animals for the first time.
Six months later I was browsing the web, actually looking for volunteer
work and without the slightest intention of adopting a dog. But I
happened across the petfinder page that featured Fagan, and even across
cyber space he stole my heart. I passed him over once.. but when I ended
up on a cooperating shelter page featuring the same dog, I had to stop
and investigate further. Coming to visit him at Country Kennels was the
final straw.. he was so gorgeous, with hair so soft, and when he came
out of the gate he bypassed everyone else and bolted right into my arms.
I've always wanted a giant dog, and Fagan is promising to be just that.
At 6 months old he already weighed 60 pounds, and yet he is incredibly
gentle and adoring. Even his name is perfect since I've always been
interested in all things Irish, and have an Irish name myself.
The funny thing about it is that I was told he'd been at the shelter
since he was a little puppy, and that he'd even been returned once. I
can't imagine why this adorable, devoted guy wasn't snatched away.. but
I almost feel like he must have been waiting for me. He always chooses
to be with me over anyone else in the family, watching me wherever I go,
laying outside of any closed door I'm behind, and just generally being a
big cuddle-muffin. And according to the vet's official aging, we may
even share a birthday!
Fagan has instantly become one of the most wonderful things in my life,
and I am grateful beyond words to have him with me. Thank you for
raising such a bright, beautiful puppy!
