GRETEL
"Gretel took a piece of gingerbread in one hand and a pane of hard candy in the other, and sat down on a toffee step to enjoy herself. As they were both eating they heard a gentle voice from the inside of the cottage saying: "Munching and crunching! Do I hear a mouse eating the walls of my gingerbread house?"
Gretel was transferred to MPR from another rescue and her story is one that is truly heartbreaking. Gretel was confiscated as a baby in a cruelty investigation. She was held in an animal control facility for 2 yrs while the case made it's way through the legal system. This poor girl grew up in an animal shelter. For the first two years of her life she did not know a warm bed, toys, a backyard to play in or a family to love her. When the case was finally finished, another kind rescuer wanted to give her a chance at the life she should have known. Gretel was then transferred to a boarding facility where she got more attention and love. She was then moved to a training facility to help further her chances of finding a forever home. From there Gretel came to MPR.
Gretel is particular about the dogs she likes to socialize with. We believe she could be successful with a male who is laid back and easygoing but we'd prefer she was an only dog so she could be the center of attention and get all the love she's missed out on for most of her life so far.
Gretel is trained to walk very well on a leash and knows all of her basic commands.
Due to Gretel's unfortunate circumstances growing up, she is still trying to figure out how to just be a dog and interact with people. She very much wants attention and cuddle time but remains a little confused about people's intention when she first meets them. Gretel will need a very special family that is willing to take the time to understand her and help her build confidence. There is a very sweet dog in there and she sure is as cuddly as can be, but the lack of human interaction she suffered from growing up has left her with some trust issues.
We believe Gretel would be better in a home with no small children. She bonds strongly with those she loves and will be protective. Someone who needs a loving and affectionate companion, as well as a sense of security will enjoy a dog like Gretel. She would make an awesome running partner. Gretel is energetic and loves to go on walks.
This sweet dog has a lot to offer the right person. She just needs someone with patience and understanding. Someone who will help her realize that the world is not a bad place when you are loved and well cared for.... She so wants to beleive it already...
