Story: Gumbo came straight from the pound on the day he was scheduled to die because somebody decided that they didn’t want him anymore and left him in the yard of an abandoned house in Kansas City MO. The poor boy was skinny and dirty and suffering from a bad case of Kennel Cough. Those pictures were taken while Gumbo was still at the shelter. He looks nothing like that now! With a little love, a good bath, some good hearty food and a waive of the magic Foster Mommy wand; Gumbo has blossomed into a very handsome man. We will try to post new pictures as soon as possible.
Foster situation: Gumbo currently resides with 2 other dogs, his foster mommy and poppa. He gets along fabulously with our male American Bulldog. Actually, they have become the best of buds. My female Pit Bull, who's a little bit grumpy at times, isn’t too fond of him and just ignores him for the most part.
Training: We are currently working on crate training as it is highly possible this poor little guy was an outside dog before. He does cry and is a little reluctant to get in his crate, but I’m sure that has a lot to do with how unbelievably cuddly and people orientated he is. What can we say, he just cant stand being away from people. He tries his very best to be good though.
Gumbo needs a patient and caring owner who can continue working on housebreaking and good house manners with him. We are teaching him basic training right now and taking it one day at a time.
Personality: Gumbo enjoys the company of others but is a little bit timid at first. Very quickly, after he assesses the situation and feels that it is safe, he will crawl up into your lap, put his head on your chest and stare at you with the biggest, most soulful eyes you have ever seen and the cutest boo-boo lip. How can you deny this little guy anything less then your heart?
Gumbo is rather laid back and easy going, but he loves to play with our 1 yr old American Bulldog. He really enjoys movie nights with my fiancé. Its prime cuddle time for Gumbo as my fiancé sprawls out on the couch with a blanket and a pillow.
I recently took Gumbo to his first adoption event; he sure was hit with the ladies. He did awesome with kids too and they were thrilled with his friendly personality. Gumbo would love to have a kid of his own to crawl into bed with and cuddle away the hours.
Best Attribute: Gumbo’s sweet natured, gentle personality will steal your heart in the first few moments of meeting him. And how can you not love that face; permanent boo-boo lip, BIG soulful eyes and the occasional “toof” that shows because of his Dogue de Bordeaux under bite. The only thing missing is his forever and ever and ever home.
