Harmony's surgery and rehabilitation

coming soon

MEDICAL NEEDS: Sadly Harmony has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. A condition mostly likely acerbated by the difficult life she had prior to rescue and the multiple pregnancies she went through. We are currently raising money for a FHO surgery. We have been given an estimate of $1000.00 to repair both hips. We will do everything we can to come up with the money and make sure Harmony gets to live the rest of her life comfortable and pain free. In the meantime, Harmony is given pain medicine as needed and being pampered by her foster parents.

UPDATE 04/20/08: Harmony will see the doctor this week in preparation for her surgery. We will send updates very soon.

UPDATE 05/05/08: Harmony had her first hip surgery last week. We are doing one hip at the time and giving her a chance to recuperate between the procedures. So far she seems to be doing well and is being pampered by her foster parents.

UPDATE 05/12/08: Harmony has been healing well despite the pain she's been enduring. We've been managing her pain with the meds but she's slowly starting to come along. Her incision has healed nicely and her stitches have been removed. She's beginning to use her leg now, but mostly still hobbles around on three legs. Some days are better than others as she recovers, adjusts and heals. She had lost seven pounds because she quit eating at first but with some tlc and "special meals" she's eating once again. For now, we just let her cuddle on the couch, or our roommates bed all the time, so she can be as comfortable as possible. We will post further updates as they become available.

UPDATE 05/22/08: Harmony is doing better. She still won't put weight on her foot, but is now holding it up and has the motion of walking, instead of just dragging it behind her. She'll begin hydrotherapy sessions this week so we'll be looking for increased improvement in the weeks to come. We will post further updates as they become available.

UPDATE 06/27/08: Thanks to the dedication of MPR volunteers, Harmony has been receiving hydrotherapy to aid her in improving her hip and leg range of motion, strength and overall endurance. Despite being a bit unsure of the swimming vest at first, Harmony is doing really well at getting the hang of swimming.

UPDATE July 08: Harmony now goes on walks and continues to improve. She's doing great!

UPDATE August 08: You all should see her. Its amazing! All of a sudden she's using her leg 95% of the time. And there's been such a change in her personality too. This whole time, she's been almost depressed acting. She'd get real happy when she saw new people, or on her walks, but other than then, she just wanted to lay around and not be bothered. Now... she's happy and you can see it, she wants to cuddle all the time, when she's not up and playing that is. We just can not believe the change in her. Guess we didn't realize just how much pain she was in.
