Jaya was rescued from a very difficult situation, out of shape, sick and heartbroken. In a way, she seemed resigned to her sad life at the time, but we are now seeing the light coming back in her eyes... At least in one of her eyes....
Jaya is currently battling mange but we have been able to stabilize her condition with good care and treatment. She actually looks better and better everyday. What a princess she has become!
We do not know all of what Jaya has been through in her life. When she came to MPR she had been living in a warehouse where she was abandoned by her owner who left because it was too cold! A kind lady was feeding her and tried to keep her warm with a kerosene heater until she could no longer afford to help Jaya. She then contacted us. Jaya's plight so touched our hearts that we just had to bring her into the program and do all we could to give her a better life ... one full of love.
Jaya was staying at MPR shelter where she appeared very happy and relieved to be out of the hell she left behind. She is a real sweetheart and has a very charming personality. Jaya would do best in a home with no other dogs or cats. We believe the little princess would much rather soak up all the love and attention for herself. Jaya likes all humans as she's always wanting to go say hello to everyone she meets. She is such a very happy girl.
Jaya is a really sweet girl who came to us in such mess. She had lots of skin problems and an old eye injury. Over the last few months her skin problems have gotten much better but now she has allergies to her feet! She is blind in one eye. She keeps her loving spirit up in spite of all this!
Jaya is on a scheduled regiment of baths, fungal spray, Benadryl. She does very well taking her baths and is a trouper about it. She is easy and well behaved. You can't help but laugh because Jaya acts like a little princess. Recently, Jaya was taken in for some shots to provide her with some relief from her itching and skin issues. She seemed so proud of herself that she had gotten her shots and was a good patient! We even asked her to take a bow for being a good girl and she did! (it was a stretch but still!).
Donations can be sent to MPR P.O. BOX 520043 Independence, MO 64052 or via PAYPAL
MPR would like to extend a special thank you to the James Vortriede family for their generous donation for Jaya's medical costs.
Jaya walks very well on the lead and doesn't pull. She's a very easy girl to walk. We would say she's very housebroken as she has always kept her kennel clean. We think she would be pretty easy to train as she is an attention hound and people pleaser for sure. Jaya, sits, shakes and lays down.
Jaya's charming and goofy personality has been coming out the last couple months. She loves her stuffed animals; loves to play tug-o-war, and most of all loves cuddle time on the couch. She would probably stay there with you all day if she could. Jaya is so full of love and kisses.
Goddess Jaya in her foster home
6/22/2010 Update: Jaya is now being fostered in a home where she is settling in great and is so very happy. Her foster mom says that Jaya is cracking them up! She's been so energetic and excited to be in a real home! She has sniffed the whole house, gone through all her toys and chewed on each one for a little bit, and keeps jumping from her bed to her couch and back to her bed. Her foster mom will be sending updates so please check back often to see what Jaya's been up to.
