Story: Jewel was initially rescued from deathrow as a puppy. We could not believe such a beautiful lilac puppy was sitting hopeless in a cage waiting for her execution. Jewel came into our program and was placed into a family where she stayed until recently. She is now back with us and we can tell you that this dog was completely heartbroken. Thankfully we have found a great foster home for her and Jewel is doing much better.

Foster Situation: Jewel is currently in a home with 2 adults and no other pets. She is a little reserved when meeting new people but warms up quickly. My dog loving neighbor had a new best friend right away. Jewel likes to play in the yard a little but mostly she just wants to do her thing and come back inside. When we go on walks she is a super good girl. Her leash manners are great and when other dogs bark at her she just looks at them and then goes about her business. Miss J doesn't like getting in the car very much but once she's there she is calm and happy as can be. I think she would do great in a calm household. She does tend to startle at things so boisterous children might scare her a little.

Training: Jewel knows sit, shake, down and kennel. We are working on stay, fetch and getting everything else more consistent. Jewel is completely housebroken and very, very well behaved. She's crate trained and does perfect during the day while I'm at work. Her little tail just starts wagging away when I come home.

Personality: Jewel is very lovey, sweet and cuddly. She is a mellow dog and needs a little bit of time to warm up to new situations. Jewel is sensitive and responsive. She is not a difficult dog at all but will require a patient owner to help her mend her broken heart.
Jewel is a laid back girl who loves to cuddle. She is sure she is a lap dog! Jewel takes a little time to get comfortable in new situations but with a little patience you will have a loving companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side. Anyone who meets her has to fall in love because she is seriously the sweetest thing. Even though she is mellow she is still a fun girl and likes to play with her toys. She will also run around trying to catch bugs and it's so funny to watch her. If you are looking for someone to curl up with and watch tv Jewel is your girl!

Behavior with other pets: Jewel lived with cats when she was in foster care last year. We don't know how she would do with cats today we could cat-test her if needed. We believe Jewel would do better in a home as an only pet. She could perhaps share her home with a laid back male in a pit savvy home that knows how to establish structure and leadership.
Best Attribute: Like her name indicates, Jewel is a gem. Besides her incredible beauty, unique coat color and her calm demeanor, the best thing about Jewel is how sweet and loving she is. She would rather curl up by my chair than lay on her bed just a few feet away.
This calm girl will give you as many cuddles as you please but is never pushy about asking for attention.
