Hi. Just wanted to bring you a long overdue update on Lucy. It's been a little more than 6 months, and we are just SO fortunate to have Lucy with us. And I know she is happy and feels at home and loved. Some pictures are attached so you can see her big goofy smile and how much we spoil her.
Lucy has gained weight since day two when she ate her way through 9 cups of food! She cut back herself as she filled out, and now weighs about 70+ pounds. She is probably 2-3 pounds overweight so we are trying to minimize any more weight gain. She eats about 4 cups of food daily plus a couple healthy "treats" like broccoli, string beans, sweet potatoes, brown rice, peanut butter, or a few bites of lean cooked meat. Like most dogs, Lucy LOVES to eat! She has a beautiful coat - like velvet, is strong and athletic, yet gentle and loving.
She tolerates the cats very well. She used to play bow to our daughter's manx cat (before she took him back to CA). Arc was very much like a dog in his demeanor. Lucy would bow, and Arc would dash behind a big chair with his pupils dilated and butt swinging, then bound out and chase Lucy. Lucy would run, then turn and chase Arc. It was really fun to watch! The other cats don't play, although Archie will walk underneath Lucy and rub against her legs. If it gets to be too much, she just leaves.
Lucy becomes more affectionate every day, climbing on the couch to cuddle, rolling over for a tummy rub, or just trying to sit on us. She loves to play, something she didn't seem to know much about when we first brought her home. She has her Lucy toys and guards them from the cats, although she will steal their catnip mice whenever she can!
So, we all love Lucy with her big smile and large brown eyes. And thank you, not only for making it possible for us to have her, but for all you do in your daily work, taking care of and finding forever homes for those animals in need. We can't imagine life right now without Lucy. She is a blessing.
