Story: Mowgli was living in the woods off of Stadium Drive in Kansas City, MO. A worker in the area said that they saw someone drive by in mid January and throw Mowgli out of their vehicle. Staff members at SNKC drove by those woods everyday and would see him laying in the sun at the entrance to the trees, like he was waiting for someone to come back for him...

Upon further investigation of the area we realized that Mowgli had actually created a den for himself, and was foraging those woods, living off of what ever her could find to eat. Once the weather started getting really bad SNKC gang decided to catch him in hope MPR could help him find a good home.
It took four consecutive weeks of effort to finally capture him. Eventually, SNKC efforts paid off and a volunteer was able to gently pulp him out from his hiding place and carry him back to the car like a baby. He was a little withdrawn at first but has made so great progress.
Over the past several weeks Mowgli has really started to come out of his shell. He has been neutered and completed a heartworm treatment (donated by SNKC). He will need to be kept calm for the next few weeks but should soon be out of the woods..

Foster Situation: Mowgli is currently being fostered by staff at SNKC. He spends his weeks at the clinic and the weekends alternating between different homes. We would really like for him to have a more permanent home or foster home! He is doing very well with potty training and is incredibly well mannered. He is completely enamored with couches, chairs, beds and anything soft. He has shown no aggression towards cats or dogs and seems interested in having a playmate. However, due to his heartworm treatment, he has not been introduced to any other animals at this time.

Training: Mowgli is working on basic commands such as sit and lay down. He does not jump up on strangers, is very responsive to correction and almost never barks. He has never had an accident in his crate and is very easy to walk on a leash.

Personality: Mowgli is incredibly quiet and gentle. He is a very easy going dog and has shown no behavioral problems or issues. He continues to be somewhat socially awkward and given the circumstances that he came from it may take a little bit more time for his true personality to come out.

Best Attribute: Mowgli is incredibly sweet and gentle. He loves affection but doesn't demand it. He is very low maintenance and wants nothing more than to hang out on the couch. He will definitely make some lucky family very happy!
Mowgli's story is a great testament to how versatile pit bulls are and how, regardless of their situation, they are always willing to love again.

Mowgli tested positive to heartworm disease. MPR needs all the help we can get for his treatment. It will cost about about $250.00 to treat but the prognostic is good. Mowgli should be out of the woods 6 weeks after the treatment. Once again, MPR is asking for assistance so we can help this precious boy. |
