Smurf if currently kept at our boarding facility where he is learning basic training. While Smurf if a friendly and outgoing little guy, he didn't have much training when he came to us and is still full of puppy energy. His new owner should be prepared to take him to obedience classes, make sure he has plenty of exercise, assure good leadership and provide him with a structured environment. We prefer a home with a 6 foot privacy fence for this athletic boy.
What an Adonis | Greek God
Smurf has not been introduced to other dogs yet. We know that he doesn't get along with other males. He might be able to share his home with a female but thus far, we believe he would do better as an only pet and with someone who understands the breed well. If you want a dog you can take to dog parks to play and mingle with other dogs, please do not apply for Smurf (or any other Pit bull for that matter). Read the Breed Info to learn more about Pit Bulls.
Being a blue dog, Smurf is prone to minor skin problems and allergies. We treated an eye infection he had when he came to us and the hair has grown back. Blue dogs often have very sensitive skin and digestive system and many require a special diet. Stress and difficult living conditions acerbate the symptoms. If Smurf lives in a loving home, is well taken care of and has the right diet he should do just fine.
Smurf is strong and powerful, has a high prey drice and not the right dog for an inexperienced owner or someone who doesn't have enough leadership. While the dog is absolutely gorgeous, he is not one for everyone. We believe that in the right hands however, he will make a great pet.
Smurf is a very friendly boy, athletic, energetic and full of love for life. He is on the small size but very well proportioned. A real beauty who turns heads everywhere he goes. Our volunteers at the kennel claim that he is very smart, responsive and a quick learner provided you have a caring but firm hand with him. This blue hunk is definitely a hit with the ladies, though his playful and dominant personality makes him very much a guy's dog.
