Story: Xander came into MPR's care malnourished, out of shape and in dire need of loving care. That was then! He is now a gorgeous hunk with a wonderful boxed-in body and big blocky head. His beautiful chocolate coat is quite shiny and healthy. Xander is a real head-turner and he knows it.
Cute Boy | Happy Xander | Too Adorable | Hopeful Xander
Foster Situation: 3/3/2008 - UPDATE - News from his new foster mom: Xander lives with 2 female pit bulls, and 1 male pit bull indoors, as well as several stray cats outside.
He loves playing with all of the other dogs, and has become very close to all of them. He has learned a ton of new commands, and will now listen to directions with no problem. He loves to romp in the yard with the whole family, and likes to just lay in the sun. He is very affectionate to visitors and likes children.
Our yard is fenced, and we put a 2 ft. deck up. Xander has learned that he can run under it, and jump off of it, and likes to play hide and seek with the stray cats.
We take X-man to Lowe's, Petsmart, and on car rides. He is such a flirt, and everyone he meets is his new best friend. He likes to go for walks, and went to the lake with us last week. He absolutely LOVES to swim and would be a great hunting dog. He tracked a deer in the woods for over 3 miles from the scent, and the deer didn't even hear him. He has really become a well-balanced dog.
He does very well on the leash and barely pulls. He rides in the car without any problems and knows how to roll his window down.
Xander sleeps on a blanket on the floor with the other dogs and likes to cuddle with them.
Xander would do well with other dogs as long as the introduction was done slowly. A dominate female would be best for him. He likes children, and is careful around them. Cats would probably be ok after a while, but I would be careful about leaving him alone with them for long periods.
Goof-Face | Laying Down in grass | Happy Dog
Training: Xander has been to formal training at "The Dog's Spot" and is also trained at home. He knows sit, stay, come, lay down, easy, home, up, say hi, go get it (fetch), pay attention (look at me), and watch. He will do anything for a treat, but it's not always necessary. He is happy with a pat on the head too. He is housebroken, but has become a more quiet dog, and is subtle when he needs to potty. Usually he will just sit at the door and wait to be let out, but if he really needs to go, he will whine. He likes his crate and likes when the girls sleep in it with him.
Personality: Xander is a one-man party. He will go in the yard and jump around by himself. It is hilarious. He is a moderately laid back guy and knows when it's play time and when it's relax time. He loves to play with new toys, and loves tug-of-war. His favorite thing in the whole world to chew is a cow hoove. That's the only thing that will last long enough for him!
He is usually well-behaved and after he greets a new visitor he will go lay down without much of a problem. He has calmed down in the past few months and isn't very rambunctious anymore. He just enjoys life and waits for his next adventure!
Best Attribute: X-man has stolen our hearts! He is so much fun, and reminds you of what it was like to be a kid. He is so well behaved and happy that you can't look at him and not smile. When he is sleepy, his hazel eyes turn bright green, and he will try and try to stay awake with you. When he finally falls asleep, you may end up with a little drool on your feet! Sometimes he dreams about running and his front feet will move like he is actually running, it is so funny! He is so much fun at the lake, running around and chasing the other dogs. He is so funny when he swims, because of his long legs, he actually doggie-paddles and his feet come way out of the water, splashing everyone.
