UPDATE 3/10/2010

Just giving you an update (plus some pics!). These guys have been lucky here lately. Ashley was off sick thursday friday last week and I was sick monday tuesday this week so they have bee getting lots of attention. I had been slowly introducing them this week (on leash). Zeus has excellent manners (Lexi is learning). Lexi had a little dominance trouble at first but we stopped that immediately. No growling, biting or fights just a little nudging and stuff. They did so well yesterday and got progressively better that we wound up with the results the pics show. These guys are great for each other. Zeus is teaching Lexi manners and Lexi is teaching Zeus when to curb the excitement. They are absolutely still separate and under close eye but we have made the first steps towards best friends for life.

Thanks,
Morgan

Zeus used to live abandoned in a vacant yard after his owner moved. A kind Neighbor and NMHP Pet Uplift people fed him while trying to find rescue for him.

MPR was very full as always, but could no longer stand the thought of poor Zeus sleeping outside in the cold and at great risk of being stolen. Zeus is a very attractive dog and it's a miracle he had not been taken by undesirable individuals yet. We braced ourselves to bring one more dog in the program and we sure are happy we did.

What a fantastic dog!

Zeus is a riot! Hard to believe that this poor boy lived all alone in the back of a vacant house for a few months. He is sooooo sociable! He thinks everyone is a long lost friends.

Zeus is fostered in a home with several other dogs. He has become best buddy with Carissa and the two of them spend a lot of them playing and goofing around. Zeus would do well in a home with another playful female.

Happy Boy | Silly Zeus | Good Sit | Cute Boy | Sweetheart | Gorgeous dog | So good looking

Zeus has a puppyish personality and is very outgoing and fun-loving. He loves interacting with people and is smart and responsive. He knows a few commands and is a fast learner. He is strong but controllable.

Silly boy | What-a-face | Laying down | Big ole smile | Pretty Boy

Zeus is much better looking in person than in those pictures. He's a big stocky boy with a large head and huge smile. He has the unique merle color of the Catahoula and stunning eyes.

Big Smile | Cute Eyes | Sweet Boy | What's up? | Adorable Zeus | Don't go.....

This dog is full of potential and we can only hope someone will come meet him soon.

Catahoula Bulldog: We believe Zeus is a Catahoula Bulldog. The Catahoula Bulldog is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog and the American Bulldog or American Pit Bull. The Catahoula Bulldog hybrid has been around for over 100 years. It is a very old American dog used in the south. There has not been any real good records kept on them. The name Catahoula comes from an Indian word meaning "clear water".

The Catahoula Bulldog has tight skin and a very short smooth coat. Eye color can come in brown, ice blue, gold, emerald green or a combination of all of these. Coats come in a wide variety of colors from merle to pure white.

Though utilized as a hunting, working, and guard dog, the Catahoula Bulldog makes an excellent companion. They are loyal and devoted to their people and are very intelligent. Catahoula Bulldogs do better with an owner who can provide positive leadership and a structured environment. Though sweet and loving to its family, it is a powerful breed, athletic, tenacious and resourceful.

Be aware that because they resemble Pit Bull dogs, unpapered Catahoula Bulldogs may be targeted by breed specific restrictions. If you live in an area with BSL, MPR will need to get Zeus approved by animal control before adopting him out.
