A HUGE Thank you to

for sponsoring 2005 & 2006 MPR SHELTER

Life is hard.... NOT!

MPR primary means of housing dogs until their forever home is found consists in a wonderful network of foster homes in the Kansas City area. This arrangement has saved the life of countless dogs but is limited by space, dog compatibility, municipalities ordinance, etc.

In order to increase our ability to rescue homeless Pit Bulls in the region, we have secured a deal with a local boarding facility in Kansas City. $7,500.00 a year gives us our own building with 12 large and comfortable kennels, 2 fenced yards, daily access to a 1 acre enclosed area for exercise & play time and staff on location 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thanks to this agreement we are now able to save many more lives. This opportunity has made a world of difference for hundred of dogs who sat hopelessly at the city pounds and shelters. Our rescue dogs are kept in boarding temporarily and moved to foster care as soon as we have an opening. The available kennel makes room for a new homeless dog and the ball keeps rolling.

PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY TO HELP US KEEP MPR SHELTER

Life In Boarding
We understand that even though living at the kennel is saving the life of many dogs, it is not like having your own family. We therefore do all we can to keep our boarding dogs as comfortable and happy as possible until they can be transferred to a foster home or placed with a loving family.

Most the dogs we rescue come from the city pound or other local shelters and the transition to our facilities is usually relatively easy. In fact, for many Pit Bulls rescued from difficult situations, a stopover at the MPR SHELTER is a BIG step up in life.

Dogs who were family pets before their rescue occasionally have a harder time adjusting to kennel life but we do all we can to ease their stress and provide them with a pleasant environment. We also move them to a foster home first so their stay in a kennel is short live. For many homeless Pit Bulls however, their transfer to MPR is the first time they ever enjoy comfort and love in their life, and the look of gratitude in their eyes says it all.

Taking Care Of The Boarding dogs
Competent and dedicated volunteers visit our boarding dogs several times a day, 7 days a week, all year long. Only approved MPR volunteers have access to the locations where the dogs are kept and are entitle to care for the rescue Pit Bulls.

Our volunteers receive training and breed education. They know how to handle Pit Bull dogs and give them the best possible care. The dogs couldn't be in better hands.

The Kennels
All dogs in our care are kept in comfortable kennels. We have access to extra-large outdoor kennels and indoor/outdoor kennels. The dogs are moved to indoor/outdoor kennels in bad weather or when the temperature is below 45 degree or above 90.

Each outdoor kennel is equipped with a large and comfortable dog house - Some dogs also like to have a doggy-pool in their kennel and all of them have plenty of toys and bones to keep them busy. Clean blankets, rugs or cushions are provided daily.

There are certified veterinarians on location. The property is protected by cameras and guard dogs and there is someone on location 24/7.

The indoor/outdoor kennels have secure doggy-doors that keep the inside cool or warm depending the season. The inside is equipped with AC and Heat so the dogs are kept comfortable in all weather. They each have a comfortable doggy bed filled with blankets or cushions. In addition to toys and bones, the dogs also get to listen to music all day long.

The dogs are let out of their kennels several times a day. They have supervised access to play-yards adjacent their kennels. Volunteers spend time playing and cuddling with them and the dogs are rotated in the yards a few times during the day.
In the evening, every dog gets to go for a walk on the property and have access to a 1 acre fenced in park where they can run and romp as they please, play fetch, tug-war, Frisbee, etc. They each get quality time with our volunteers, working on socialization, basic training and good manners, or just leisure time, relaxation and cuddling.
