Story: Not really too sure about Boris's past. All we know is that he was on his way to eternal sleep at a shelter, literally walking towards the "E" room when he turned around and gave one of our volunteers a big ole smile as if he was saying "It's ok, I know it's not your fault... I love you... :-) "
And that was all it took for her to stop the city employee and take Boris into the program.
How could you resist a face like that? Unfortunately, Boris is not much of a pit, even though he is a heck of a cool looking dog with an outstanding personality. But his chance to find a home via Pit Bull rescue are pretty limited. Our only hope is that someone who likes Pit Bull type dogs; big head, big bones and big heart, will fall in love with this happy dude and open their home to him like they would a real Pit Bull.
A great advantage of adopting Boris, is that he might be able to live in municipalities that have legislation against Pit Bulls. We already know that the city of Overland Park will take him (we have papers to prove that he's been evaluated by the City and accepted as a "non-Pit Bull dog"). We believe many other municipalities with a breed ban will recognize that even though he might have some of the Pit Bull features, such as a wonderful disposition, Boris is probably a mastiff mix.
Foster Situation: Boris has one female canine roomie, one male canine roomie, one male feline roomie, one female guinea pig roomie who he never really sees, and is a great companion to three small kids ages 5, 4, 3. Boris, he gets along with everyone and he "adores" the children. When outside he follows them everywhere to the best of his ability.
Potty time is on a leash, there is no fence. So Boris could live in a home without a fence as he is used to this lifestyle already. We would think he'd looove to have a big secure yard to run and romp though.

Training: Boris is crate trained (you say "kennel" and he goes (a little reward with a biscuit doesn't hurt)) and already housebroken. We have started on leash training as well as heel and sit.
He has mastered sit and down (gotta love those biscuits!). Still working on the leash but we are halfway there (hmm, more biscuits?)
Personality: Bubbie is the BIGGEST goofball and is always in a good mood. If you look at him straight on he has a slight cross-eyed look to him. He loves to cuddle with you on the couch and if he's not allowed up he is right there at your feet. When he is extremely happy his tail turns into a windmill! He is definitely a people lover and pleaser and he gets along very well with other dogs.

UPDATES From Foster mom:
Bubbie's sweet disposition truly shines when spending one on one time with his foster parents. His favorite past time of relaxing is obvious as he lays at my feet - always completely spread out from back legs straight behind him pads pointed towards the ceiling to front paws stretched forward and head resting in between.
Boris loves to be pampered. He melts my heart each time that I give him even a little attention his windmill tail gets going round and round. Yet, he definitely appreciates some doggy company. My girl loves to show Boris the ropes of puppy play and bless his heart, Boris tries his best to keep up.
He does show a submissive behavior so he would be comfortable with a family that may have an established female. Cats are another story, he puts up with them and behaves as long as there is supervision but if given a chance - chase time is on. No kitties may be best but co-habitation is not impossible.
His laid back attitude makes him an excellent candidate for a home that may have young children. This doesn't bode well if you're an athlete looking for a running companion or someone to play fetch with. That's not his cup of tea, but if you're looking for someone to cuddle with on the couch or keep your feet warm, Boris is your boy.

Bubbie is really a spectactular dog. He can romp and play with the best of 'em without over doing it. He is also the BIGGEST cuddler you will ever meet. He is a simple laid back kinda guy, also one of the quietest. He barely barks. He is certainly no guard dog as he will welcome anyone, big or small, into your home with a tail wag and kisses.
He is showing much love for other animals. He is currently being fostered with a male pit bull and female pit mix. They have become the epitome of the word 'pack' - with foster mom as leader of course.
Boris reflects tenderness and care when he gives his foster sis and bro constant kisses. He has even learned to accept the cat as a pack member and show him respect by not chasing or stalking.
Short dashes in the backyard and easy walks are the preferred method of excersize.
The sweet boy prefers the couch though and knows how to wrap me around his little paw. In his foster mom's opinion, Boris has become the perfect dog. |
