Raisin's adoption day: Sunday, September 25th, 2000

What a lucky dog! Raisin has finaly found her forever home after such a difficult start at life. She had been shipped from homes to homes, until she ended abandoned hooked on a chain and left to starve. She was rescued in time and amazingly, her sad ordeal has not affected her love for people. She is a very sweet and friendly girl and will make her new family very happy.

"Raisin had a great trip home with us. She either stood between us on the console or sat in our laps the entire way. When she came in and saw Buddy, she was terrified, but Buddy was so happy and excited and smiling from ear to ear. Poor Raisin jumped forward and bit Buddy, which started a short but frightening scuffle. Then Raisin layed down on her back and showed submission, and the smell-fest began. Then they started to play, and it was one of the most fascinating things to see. They would take turns leaping at each other and play nipping.

Raisin would jump straight into the air and do a circle and come down, and then Buddy would pounce at her and she would pounce at him-it was like two kittens but very intense, almost like a choreographed ballet dance. This went on for about an hour. Then we brought the puppy down, and he got in on the action.

He and Raisin played like they were from the same litter. She played as rough as he wanted to get without hurting him. They had so much fun. Then Raisin and Buddy ran around the house several times full blast up and down the stairs. It sounded like a circus in here.Raisin especially seemed to like my son Nick. At bedtime, she and Buddy layed down together on a pile of blankets in our bedroom. She wimpered when I turned out the light, but I pulled the drapes to let some light in, and then she seemed fine. They slept the whole night through together without incident.
I introduced her to the baby this morning and she is very gentle with her, lots of face licking. Annika was so excited to see another puppy in the house. When I was bringing some things in from the truck this morning, Raisin followed me out to the garage. She was sniffing around, and within seconds, she had deposited a freshly killed mouse on the doorstep. Then she was parading around with a plastic cup in her mouth containing the mouse's nest. She was giving us a gift I suppose. What a good dog, and sooo pretty! Her paws seem huge, I still think she has some growing to do. We'll try to get some weight on her too. Everything is going well so far, we really enjoy her, so do the other dogs. Buddy made some "amorous advances" toward her this morning, but she didn't mind. Guess that was bound to happen. We just want to thank you all so much for all of your kindness. I will get some pictures to you soon. Thanks again!!" Brigitte

A special thanks to Andy and Clayton who fostered Raisin until a good home was found.

"Raisin has turned out to be a real joy in our lives. She is SO funny and unique and she is so very good with our little girl Annika, who is a toddler now. I could not ask for a dog with a better, more patient temperment with little ones. She is also an excellent companion to our other male pit bull, Buddy, and they play together all the time.
Raisin is a real lap dog and drapes herself over our laps whenever she can catch us on the couch. Raisin still has some issues about being left alone in the house, and even if it is rare, she is slowly getting more comfortable with it. She is rounding out nicely, weighs in at 60 pounds now, and looks much more "pitbully" tho she still has that adorable underbite. We are getting a permit to install a nice fence this spring, so she and Buddy can bask in the sun and play outside more. I could go on and on about all the funny little things she does, but I know that all of the dogs you help are probably the same in their own way. Just wanted to drop a short note to let you know how she was doing, and how much we enjoy her. Thanks again, and take care"
