Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bulls
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

It's Puppy Time! Yeaaaaah!!! .... NOT! |
| It's that time of year when more and more Pit Bull puppies are being born into this world. For the average dogs the pet population is bad enough, but in the Pit Bull society, it's overwhelming! |

| If you have never been to an animal shelter during this time of the year then you have no idea what a huge problem this is. Many shelters have non-adoption policies on Pit Bulls. Not because they have a personal agenda against Pit Bulls... Quite the opposite, in fact. Those restrictions are put in place in order to protect the dogs. Sadly, because of lack of resources allowing the staff to screen applicants, the only way shelters can prevent these poor dogs from falling in the wrong hands is by instating a non-adoption policy on breeds that attract more than their share of abuse and irresponsible owners.
Pit Bulls rank #1 when it comes to bad owners' magnets. Hence why rescue groups such as MPR work tirelessly to help those dogs and find them the homes they deserve and solutions to this terrible tragedy.
In the meantime, more than half of the dogs in animal shelters are unavailable for adoption because they are considered Pit Bulls. This means that if a loving family goes to the shelter to adopt a puppy and if the puppy they pick is a Pit Bull they will be turned away.
|
Even for adorable, innocent little puppies such as these...
The only way a Pit Bull puppy will make it out of the shelter alive is if the original owner claims it back or if a Pit Bull rescue group is able to pull it out in time.
Problem is, a lot of times the original owners are the problem. The family or the breeder abandons the momma dog and puppies on the side of the road or they drop them off at the shelter, or simply allow them to get lost or stolen by lack of supervision. These people close their eyes to the over population problem and walk away not accepting the responsibility of their dog.
If MPR is able to, we pull puppies from local shelters before it is too late. The problem is so huge though that the majority of the puppies don't make it out alive. The public is not fully aware of the big picture either. Puppies are often kept in the back and euthanized quickly to avoid the spread of nasty viruses such as "parvo". So reality is hidden and not always in the face of those who need to see it.
Rescue groups only have so much space and when it's full we are left helpless to the puppies we see. To have to walk away from the cage of a baby Pit Bull that is nursing from it's momma, knowing that these babies won't make it out is a horrible feeling, one that Pit Bull rescue groups face every day. For these puppies sometimes it's only a few hours before it will be pulled away from its momma taken into a room and have a needle inserted into it's vein.
Please visit local animal Control and see first hand how bad the situation really is. See the countless pleading eyes watching you as you walk past their cages. Some of those dogs are new to the shelter and seem to not understand what has happened to them. Some others may have been confiscated and must endure a longer stay on death row. They know their fate and are jumping, barking and pawing at the kennel door trying to escape.
How is a baby deserving of this you ask?..... It's not.
This is just a little view into world of Pit Bull rescue and the fight we have on our hands every day. So take a little time and go to your local shelters. Look for Pit Bulls that are under a year old, and you will leave astounded at the cruel world that these dogs are born into. One that punishes them not because of a bad deed done, but because of their breed! Now try to close your eyes and not see these horrible images! Knowing that in 5 days the majority of the dogs you just saw will be dead, including the puppies….just to make room for more with the same fate.

MPR holds Adoption Events on a regular basis to allow the public to meet some of our dogs, talk to our volunteers about Pit Bull ownership, ask any question and spend individual time with a dog they might be interested to adopt.
Please email us if you want to know which dog will be attending next event |

Lil Lovin Lenny |

| Lil Lenny is 16 - 18 months old
and full of a wonderful and endearing spirit. He is always happy to see people. Lenny is very much a puppy still. He loves to run and play whether it's trying to get Peaches to chase him or wanting you to throw a tennis ball for him to chase.
When it's time to unwind and just sit back on the couch Lenny is happy to take a seat right on your lap. He will step over any dog that is in his way. He will even lay on a dog if there is all ready a dog in your lap. He insists on being the dog closest to you.
Lenny gets along with most dogs in a supervised setting. He especially loves to play with puppies since he is such a puppy himself.
Lenny loves riding in the car, going for walks and he is very mindful of where his human is at all times. He is not a dog that generally runs off. He wants to be with humans at all times.
Lenny would make someone such a wonderful and loving pet.
Talk about a dog that will be ecstatic to see you every time you come home. Once you experience "Lenny Lovin" you can't get enough.
|
| Lenny is crate trained, and house trained. He enjoys playing with Peaches, laying on the couch, playing fetch, playing in water, riding in cars and meeting and licking as many people as he can. How can you not love him back?

Meet our new adoptables |
Our recent adoptions made room to save the life of new dogs. Visits to KCMO Animal Control facility are always very difficult. Dozens and dozens of Pit Bulls of all age, shape and color, sitting hopeless on deathrow, for having committed no other crime than being born the wrong breed in the wrong hands. We had room for one dog on our last trip but came back with two.... one of which has already been adopted! Won't you give his brother the same chance?
Dandelion
Male, about 11-12 weeks old. Very sweet and loving. Receiving needed socialization but doing well in foster care. For more info about Dandelion, please visit his page.

| IN LOVING MEMORY.... |
Atreyu, DBO Unknown May 2007 |
| |
It's with great sadness that we must announce the passing of beloved Atreyu, the cherished and pampered rescued Pit Bull of Jennifer Shive, one of our most dedicated volunteer. On May 2007, a brain tumor suddenly took the life of 13 years old Atreyu. It was a quick and painless death.
Atreyu went into a semi coma and was peacefully euthanized at the vet clinic where his mom works. Atreyu left our world surrounded by love and among true friends. |
|
 |
Jennifer wanted to make sure this old dog would have a peaceful ending, but she gave him much more than that. She gave him her heart and more love than he had ever known.
In return, Atreyu opened Jennifer's heart to the plea of the Pit Bull dogs and showed her a totally different side of the breed than what she had known from the media. Atreyu was a lovable goof who would not hurt a fly. He loved people unconditionally and was one of the best breed representative there is.
Jennifer is devastated but she knows in her heart that she gave Atreyu the best years of his life. You see, Atreyu was already "11" years old when Jennifer welcomed him into her heart, fully aware that she would soon have to say goodbye.
Jennifer and Atreyu developed the kind of bond that goes on inspite of death. He will be in her heart forever and they will be together again, when he greets his beloved mom at the rainbow Bridge.
