Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bulls
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

FOSTER HOMES DESPERATELY NEEDED |
WHAT PIT BULLS MUST ENDURE....
3 tragic and very sad cases that illustrate so well what Pit Bulls must endure in our society... And some call them monsters.... Really, who's the monster here...?
MPR is trying to help those poor dogs but all our foster homes are full. Boarding is $200.00 a month per dog... Those dogs are all in dire need of medical attention.... Please help us help them.
Our biggest need right now; Committed foster homes. |

Sir Love-A-Lot |
|
Hacked with a machete....
This brave boy was rescued by a good Samaritan and brought to a vet clinic with severe injuries to the head, which appear to have been inflicted with a knife or a machete... Phoenix was very scared when we first met him but that didn't last long. He quickly realized that no one would ever hurt him again.... |
Abandoned, sick, hungry...
2 very sweet Pit Bulls found their way to a good samaritan's porch somehow, begging for a little attention, a place to rest and a little bit of food. MPR was contacted but we have no room in our program right now. We are posting their pictures in case someone can help.... Please... |
Covered in old scars & fresh wounds. The dogs are malnourished, weaken by infections and lack of food and most likely infested with parasites. Yet, they are unbelievably sweet and loving.. Gentle, calm and craving love, they seem desperate for attention and a safe place to recuperate...
Update: We could not leave these two in the street so we are now paying for boarding and giving them essential medical care. The dogs are in dire need of foster care..... |

Why Adopt an Adult Dog?
Almost four years ago, my family was faced with choosing our next canine family member. Due to a rapid and devastating illness, we had recently lost our beloved family pet pit bull that we had rescued 6.5 years earlier and for the first time in our adult lives found ourselves and our home without the special love of a dog. Her passing left us with a huge hole in our hearts, family and home. It was agony just getting through the day without her and the nights of not being able to snuggle with our best fur friend. With so many pit bulls needing a family, home and love, we knew we were going to be bringing another pit bull into our home and we knew that it would be a rescued pit bull but the big question was whether we would choose a puppy or an adult. |
|
| So began our search, which found us on MPR's site looking at all the wonderful pit bulls that needed a family, home and love. Sure, there were some really cute puppies available and of course, we "cooed" and "awed" over them but we also noticed that there were a lot of adult dogs. That got us to thinking about how easy it must be to find homes for puppies but what happens to the adult dogs that are overlooked and end up waiting, what seems like forever, for a family and home? Didn't they deserve to be noticed as much if not more than the puppies?
The following week found us talking and contemplating our options and we noticed that a curious thing began to happen. By the end of the week we had discovered that we kept returning to the biographies of adoptable adult dog's, especially one in particular and that's when we finally knew she was the one for us. We were going to be getting an adult dog!
There were many reasons why it made so much sense. We knew what we were going to be getting; such as size, shape, personality, health, drives, exercise needs, basic training, etc. She was housebroken, spayed, fully vetted, with a more constant energy level, past her puppy-phase and all of it's energy draining requirements. After all, we're not young people ourselves. We also knew that by adopting her, we would be saving two lives, hers and the next dog that would be brought into the program when she vacated her place.
Once the decision had been made, we applied for her, were ecstatic when we were accepted and then excitedly made the trip to bring home our newest family member. I can't begin to tell you how much she's been such a tremendous joy to have in our family and home, bringing her own special brand of love with her. We consider ourselves very lucky to have her as part of our family and to be able to share our love and lives with her. Just look at those eyes ... how could anyone say 'no' just because she was an adult and already past her "cute" puppy hood?
When looking for your next canine family member, remember ...
With all the superb qualities possessed by adult and older dogs, it is unfortunate that they are often overlooked and therefore run a higher risk of euthanasia because there are not enough homes for them. With an adult dog, you know exactly what you're going to be getting. So, before making your choice, take a moment to think about the possibilities of an adult dog. You may be surprised at what and who, you find.
Adult and older dogs often make great companions for most people who already have hectic lives as well as older people who don't have the stamina to keep up with the required responsibilities of a young and energetic puppy.
The biggest benefit to adopting an adult dog is the gratitude and unconditional love you will receive in return. Your new adult dog will be grateful to you for providing him or her with a family, home and all the attention and love she or he deserves. When adopting an adult dog, remember that you're saving a life or in some cases, two.
Adopting an adult dog is a smart choice.
It was for us and we've never regretted it!

10/20/07 PIT BULL AWARENESS DAY!!! - A DAY TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE PIT BULL OWNERSHIP!!! Calling all responsible pit bull owners, advocates and fanciers ... Please mark Saturday, October 20, 2007 on your calendars for the first nationwide Pit Bull Awareness Day.
In light of the constant negative publicity that surrounds pit bulls, we felt it was time to establish a day to focus on these incredible dogs and their responsible owners. The media berates our dogs daily. Legislators have labeled pit bull owners as the "criminal element" who only own pit bulls to enhance their macho image. Its time we set the record straight. |

Were Bexar County TX Pit Bulls Buried Alive? - 90-100 Dogs Killed At Local Animal Sanctuary
The San Antonio animal sanctuary Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) in Bexar County, agrees that many pit bulls
should be "put down" for public safety purposes says Carol
Asvestats, president of the organization. In January 2005, the facility located at Leslie and
Talley Road, with the help of the SPCA, quietly killed as many as 90-100 pit bulls housed on the charity's
property. But there is a problem. Accountability.
Some WAO workers say they were "bullied" into secrecy. Recent insider information has prompted a series of articles on this developing story exposing discrepancies into what really happened.
