SNKC CAN HELP!

Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bulls
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

Windchill
Meet our sweet little Windchill, who managed to survive freezing cold temperature (with a windchill factor below zero) without any shelter, food or water, until faith could bring her to rescue. Windchill is now safe in a boarding facility and very relieved to be loved and cared for by our volunteers. To her, life in a kennel is heaven compared to what she had before. Can you imagine how thrilled she would be in someone's home instead, cuddling with a loved one? |
 |
Blue Ice
Look at those baby blues... How could anyone leave such gem out in the cold to starve and freeze? Blue Ice is another poor dog found freezing in the cold, with frost bite on his feet and tail and slowly starving to death. This sweetheart is now gratefully recuperating from his ordeal in a good Samaritan's home. He can't stay there much longer however, as the family is over their pet limit. Blue Ice needs a place to go as soon as possible. We would prefer to avoid boarding for this precious boy as he seems so relieved and happy to be able to rest on a couch and be pampered in someone's home. |

MEET MPR DOGS!!!
MPR holds Adoption Events on a regular basis to allow the public to meet our dogs, talk to our volunteers about Pit Bull ownership, ask any question and spend individual time with a dog they might be interested to adopt.
Please email us if you want to know which dog will be attending this event.

| Be a Voice for Those Who Can't Speak - SUPPORT BILL SB 819 — To Increases Penalties for Dog Fighting - SB 819 would give the Show Me State stiffer laws against dog fighting. The bill, sponsored by Senator Scott Rupp, would add dog fighting to the list of offenses that are subject to the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act. It would increase the penalty for being a spectator at a dog fighting event, and allow law enforcement officers making a lawful seizure to take possession of dogs and property used in the violation. This bill is pending in the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. |
| Given Reprieve, N.F.L. Star's Dogs Find Kindness - They arrived Jan. 2 from Richmond, Va., on a chartered airplane, stressed after eight months in shelters. In initial evaluations last September, many lay flat and looked frightened. Now, many respond to caregivers by wagging their tails and giving sloppy kisses. "These dogs have been beaten and starved and tortured, and they have every reason not to trust us," Mr. Garcia said as Georgia crawled onto his lap, melted into him for an afternoon nap and began to snore. "But deep down, they love us and still want to be with us. It is amazing how resilient they are." | |
Humane Society of Missouri increases reward to $4,200 - The generosity of an additional donor has allowed the Humane Society of Missouri to increase the reward to $4,200 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who threw a Pit Bull and another large dog from the Union Blvd. overpass on January 16. |
Maryville, MO - Overcoming a bad rep - Starting two weeks ago, Mathias,
a trainer who become AKC certified in 1995,
and her partner Sandy Greeno, have begun offering obedience training classes for pit bulls and their owners in the Maryville area.
As with all of their training, Mathias and her partner only use positive reinforcement to teach dogs.

| 2/16/2008 - Gladstone, MO - City keeps bull terriers on list of dangerous animals - Council members agreed to have city staff review the ordinance last month after Kirk Forslund presented letters from area veterinarians that stated bull terriers are not dangerous.
But on Monday, city staff maintained that bull terriers should not be removed from the dangerous animal classification. |

Missouri: SB 886 Regulates the Dog, Not the Breed
SB 886 - Dangerous Dogs
Sponsor(s): Senator Jolie Justus
ASPCA Position: Support
Action Needed: Please send letters to your state senator and members of the Missouri State Senate Economic Development, Tourism and Local Government Committee to express your support for this bill.
Sponsored by Senator Jolie Justus, SB 886 would allow any Missouri village, town or city to adopt regulations to control vicious or dangerous dogs—but importantly, the bill prevents communities from discriminating against any breed of dog.
Dogs are individuals: any dog can bite. Citizens should be protected from vicious and dangerous dogs of all breeds or mixes. Discriminating against certain breeds of dogs fails to protect the public and penalizes responsible dog owners.

SWEET AS CAN BE HARMONY |
Harmony got her name due to her incredibly sweet and friendly personality. This dog has an outstanding disposition and everyone is falling in love with her. She is thrilled with the attention!
Harmony's life wasn't always so harmonious... She actually managed to escape a terrible situation... This dog is the epitome of a breeding machine.... We were told this poor, poor momma dog had about a dozen litters in her life....!! She was rescued from an unscrupulous backyard breeder who bred her every heat cycle since she was about 6 months old. Can you imagine what this poor dog went through?
Harmony is perfect! She is housebroken, has great manners, is responsive, easy and she loooves being pampered. Hard to tell she has only been an inside dog for a few months.
We found out that she spent most of her life as a neglected and unloved outside dog.We promised her she would always be accepted as a part of the family for now on and would never be forced to live outside by herself again. |
|
Please don't let Harmony's difficult life discourage you from opening your heart to her. If you have a special place in your heart for the underdog, Harmony is just what you are looking for. She has sooo much love to give. This precious soul deserves to be pampered like no-others for the rest of her life. Will YOU open your heart for her? |
| FEATURED VOLUNTEER February 2008 |
Stephanie Thomas |
|

|
Stephanie has been an MPR volunteer for close to year and in that time has fostered 7 MPR dogs, screened new volunteers, adoption applications, performed home checks, help at events, etc. If that wasn't enough, she has also written several blogs that were featured on MPR's website. Steph is very passionate about animal rescue (she fosters cats through another rescue as well), but pits are by far her favorite and most rewarding. She takes every opportunity to educate family, friends and strangers on the breed.
Ever since Stephanie was a little girl, she's had two dreams, Animal Rescue and volunteering her time to therapy with animals (pets helping humans). So, why pits you may ask: Her son's father has two very loving pit bulls. She tells us that when she was pregnant with her son, one of her ex's pits would lay his head on her stomach and snuggle with her... It was like he knew she was pregnant. That simple act of love really touched her heart. When she moved out and bought her own home, she decided to join MPR.
|
| Stephanie has also been on a quest to find her special therapy dog...and she's pretty sure she found him through MPR, making both of her childhood dreams come true!!! Steph is such an asset to MPR and we are so very thankful to have her onboard. Thank you Stephanie!
