SNKC CAN HELP!

Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bulls
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

CHAIN OF REALITY EVENT - Spay and Neuter Kansas City (SNKC) is hosting a week-long event to bring an increased public awareness to pet overpopulation in Kansas City. The goal of this event is to bring more support to spay and neutering and to help decrease the surplus of pets. Decreasing the surplus of pets will in turn lessen shelter intake and fewer animals will have to be euthanized. Chain of Reality Event * Union Station *

| Be a Voice for Those Who Can't Speak - SUPPORT BILL SB 819 — To Increase Penalties for Dog Fighting - SB 819 would give the Show Me State stiffer laws against dog fighting. The bill, sponsored by Senator Scott Rupp, would add dog fighting to the list of offenses that are subject to the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act. It would increase the penalty for being a spectator at a dog fighting event, and allow law enforcement officers making a lawful seizure to take possession of dogs and property used in the violation. This bill is pending in the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. |

Society looking to find seized dogs loving homes - SIKESTON — Pit bulls seized late last year during a Stoddard County dogfighting bust aren't living happily ever after — yet the opportunity to do so is definitely there.
... Since it began accepting applications for the dogs, the Humane Society of Missouri has placed one animal with the rescue group out of Kansas City, which has also expressed interest in a second animal, Hill said. It's also working with another rescue group in California that received one of the dogs from the Michael Vick case, she said. |

Missouri: SB 886 Regulates the Dog, Not the Breed
SB 886 - Dangerous Dogs
Sponsor(s): Senator Jolie Justus
ASPCA Position: Support
Action Needed: Please email our letter to your state senator and members of the Missouri State Senate Economic Development, Tourism and Local Government Committee to express your support for this bill.
Sponsored by Senator Jolie Justus, SB 886 would allow any Missouri village, town or city to adopt regulations to control vicious or dangerous dogs-but importantly, the bill prevents communities from discriminating against any breed of dog.
Dogs are individuals: any dog can bite. Citizens should be protected from vicious and dangerous dogs of all breeds or mixes. Discriminating against certain breeds of dogs fails to protect the public and penalizes responsible dog owners.
Your letter will be sent to:
- Your State Senator or Senators
- Senator John E. Griesheimer
- Senator Jack Goodman
- Senator Harry Kennedy
- Senator Ryan Glennon McKenna
- Senator Carl M. Vogel
- Senator Wes Shoemyer
- Senator Jason G. Crowell
- Senator Michael R. Gibbons
- Senator Kevin Engler
- Senator Victor Callahan

| 2/27/2008 - Malmo, NE - Ordinance Banning Vicious Dogs - Malmo is a village in Saunders County, in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area. The Malmo Village Board held a second reading on a new ordinance banning vicious dogs from the community.
Village Board member Jeannette Bennett said that the ordinance would include not only wolf/dog hybrids, but would also apply to Rottweilers, Staffordshire terriers and pit bulls.
Should the ordinance pass after its third reading in March, the regulation would require animals meeting these criteria to be removed from the village, and would apply both to animals already in town as well as any new animals that were brought in.
|
| 2/25/2008 - Missouri - Lawmaker Pushes Dog Attack Bill - A Missouri lawmaker is pushing a bill aimed at reducing the number of vicious dog attacks. A Senate committee is hearing testimony about the bill on Monday (March 3, 2008). The proposal would penalize dog owners if their pets injure people or property. |
| 2/21/2008 - Missouri - Bill pulling teeth from pit-bull specific ordinances heard in Senate - Anti-BSL bill heard in Senate (Missouri). Sen. Jolie Justus, a Kansas City Democrat, presented a bill in committee that would prohibit cities from adopting breed-specific dangerous-dog ordinances. If approved, Justus’ bill would void all previous ordinances and prohibit any new ones from discriminating by breed. |

Blue Ice |
Look at those baby blues... How could anyone leave such gem out in the cold to starve and freeze? Blue Ice is another poor dog found freezing in the cold, with frost bite on his feet and tail and slowly starving to death.
Blue was found as a stray wandering the streets in freezing temps. He had frostbite in several areas on his legs and tail, along with a few cuts and scrapes. A good samaritan took him in, and had him checked out by a vet. He's now on his way to recovery!
Blue is very eager to please as well as an entertaining and silly boy! He is so happy when he sees anyone that his tail spins like a windmill.
Besides Blue's gorgeous eyes, his best feature is he so happy! It's impossible to look at him and not smile. When Irish Eyes are smiling ... they'll steal your heart away! |

Melanie and Scott are currently fostering Butterball and Blue Ice. They are such a great foster home for MPR and have fostered Dionysus, Jude, Pecan Pie, Butterball, Candied Yam, Apple Crumb and Blue Ice.
Melanie is on the email response team, the Fundraising Team, and maintains the foster/volunteer database. Shes's also helped at events, set up fundraisers, and is learning how to perform homechecks. Scott creates flyers and other graphic materials for special events.
Melanie has always been passionate about helping animals. She had decided to volunteer with an animal group, and together, Scott and she decided pitbulls needed the most help. Melanie found MPR and after looking at the faces of the foster dogs, they couldn't resist opening their home to a homeless pittie.
Melanie says, "Volunteering and Fostering with MPR has been such a great experience for us. The feeling of helping a deserving dog find a perfect home is so rewarding."
