Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bull Dogs
SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP! |
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

| FOSTER HOMES NEEDED February 2009 |
|
Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00 a month |
|
Boarding is a life-saving option for the few lucky dogs we can afford to help that way, but we cant do it unless we receive financial assistance from people like you.
We have several programs available. Every penny counts! Become a Helping Hand |
|
As it is, we can't afford helping anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. In the meantime, our boarding dogs are in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull.
Boarding is a life-saving opportunity for dogs that have no other options. For dogs that came from a difficult situation, boarding is often a step up in life. But boarding needs to be a temporary solution. In order to find a home, our rescue dogs need to learn how to be well-behaved family companions. You can make a difference... PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts. They desperately need YOU! Become a Foster Home |

Saving Lives - Spay & Neutering |
| Pit Bull puppies are cute, but sadly, all across the nation, many of their lives often end in tragedy. |

WARNING! Video content is graphic. |
Between four million and six million pets are euthanized in U.S. shelters every year simply because they are homeless. Yes, this includes those cute little tiny newborn puppies! Many of these animals lead lives of misery, adversity, disease and neglect. The others are spared this torture only by being killed in animal shelters throughout the country.
Shelters and Rescues do their best to place animals in loving homes, but the number of homeless animals far exceeds the number of available homes. This leaves many loving and healthy animals in our community that must be euthanized as the only humane solution to this tragic dilemma.
The easiest and most effective way to correct the tragic situation is to make sure these unwanted animals do not exist in the first place. MPR is committed to this idea. Through the spaying and neutering of our pets, this needless suffering and death can be stopped. |
The benefits of spaying females and neutering males are many. First and foremost, the number of unwanted animals is dramatically reduced. Fewer arrive at animal shelters and many more are spared the cruel life of the streets. Secondly, the pets and pet owners benefit. Spayed and neutered animals are happier, healthier pets. Males fight less and do not roam as much, greatly reducing the risks of being hit by cars or developing prostate cancer. Because females do not go into heat, they are less likely to develop uterine infections and mammary cancer. Owners also save the expense of veterinary bills related to these problems. Thirdly, the shelters and the community benefit. Communities are relieved of the cost of caring for, killing and disposing of thousands of animals. In addition, our streets and parks will be free from stray and sometimes dangerous animals.
As you see, the solution is simple and the benefits are numerous.
What can you do, you ask? First, make sure your own pets are spayed or neutered. If they aren't, please make that appointment today! Second, sponsor the spay or neuter of a pit bull awaiting adoption, or you may even help a friend or neighbor in need. Third, volunteer at a spay/neuter clinic in your area. Fourth, educate your family, co-workers, neighbors and friends on the benefits of spaying or neutering their pets.
We've included these links for more information on spaying and neutering, including a page about this issue written for children.
Because of the seriousness of the pet overpopulation problem, there are countless programs that provide low-cost spaying and neutering for pets.
For those in the Kansas City area, please contact SNKC for information about their spay/neuter services or check out MPR's Spay/Neuter page for more resources. For those outside of the Kansas City area, if you need help locating spay and neuter resources, use any search engine on the web (Yahoo, Excite, Google, etc.) to find extensive lists of clinics by city and state. Try "low-cost neuter" to start your search. If you have a pit bull that needs spayed or neutered please check PBRC's Spay/Neuter page, or apply for assistance at PBRC Spay/Neuter Application.
Please be a part of the overpopulation solution, make sure your pet doesn't bring unwanted offspring into the world ... please, make that spay or neuter appointment today!

Officially the last Tuesday of February, with events and activities taking place Nationwide throughout the month of February.

Loving Frank & Tessa |
Frank and Tessa were rescued by MPR in 2002 and adopted into a loving home together where they lived a spoiled and happy life until their owner tragically passed away last spring. The dogs had a real hard time adjusting to their ordeal but they seem resigned now. At least they have each other and it has helped them go through their loss. They are very bonded.
Separating those sweethearts however, who have never been apart for the last 6 years just breaks our heart. We will do everything we can to find them a home together even though we know that placing "two" dogs in a home is a great challenge. We feel those two are exceptionally good and hope this will work in their favor in order to find someone willing to welcome both of them.
Tessa and Frankly compliment each other so well.
Please open your heart and welcome these two lovebirds into your home and family this Valentine's Day and let them fill it with their special love. |

Jeff & Sabrina |
|
MPR met Jeff and Sabrina 4 years ago when they applied to MPR intending to adopt a needy pit bull. After initial interviews and the homecheck, it was decided that they would be best suited for fostering due to their then current living situation and inexperience with the breed. This gave them the opportunity to gain some involvement with the breed, without a permanent commitment.
Beginning with the first few fosters, they learned a lot about the breed and about the sick people who so carelessly abuse these beautiful dogs. Jeff tells us, "We wish that more people would open their hearts and not be so closed minded when it comes to these dogs." |
Over the past four years they have opened their hearts and home and have fostered twelve dogs, two of which were adopted by them. They have loving cared for Jack, Toro, Maverick, Dawson (adopted by them), Jilly, Serenity, Jade, Cranberry, Green Bean (adopted by them and renamed Diamond), Harmony, Trouble and Asher. They've always stepped up when a dog needed them. Their dedication has been truly amazing!
If all that wasn't enough, they also help out at events when they are able to. They were a tremendous help at MPR's garage sale last year.
Jeff and Sabrina, ... your caring, hard work and commitment are such an asset to MPR and the dogs. We are so very fortunate and thankful to have you on board. From the bottom of our hearts ... thank you!

| IN LOVING MEMORY.... |
Sweet Harmony.... |
The young pup and Harmony, an older female Pit Bull, laid on shaded sweet grass watching the reunions.
Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes a whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge, be greeted by their loving pets and cross the bridge together.
The young pup playfully nipped at the older one. "Look! Something wonderful is happening!" Then Harmony suddenly rose to her feet and barked, "Quickly. Get over to the path."
"But that's not my owner," whined the pup, but he did as he was told. Thousands of pets surged forward as a figure in white walked on the path toward the bridge. After the glowing figure passed each animal, that animal bowed it's head in love and respect. The figure finally approached the bridge, and was met by a menagerie of joyous animals. Together, they all walked over the bridge and disappeared.
The young pup was still in awe. "Was that an angel?" he whispered.
"No, son." Harmony replied. "That was more than an angel. That was a person who worked Rescue."
"There was a time during my living years that I went without food, medical care and a person that wanted to cuddle me. The people I once knew harmed me by not feeding me and not caring for my sick body. Oh, I can remember the times I went hungry just like it was yesterday. They insisted that I bear the pain of giving birth to litter after litter of these precious little Pit Bull puppy's, but it took such a toll on my tired body. I cared for every one of those tiny puppies, nursing them, keeping them clean and warm until the people would come for them and take them away. I always prayed that they would have more than what I was given. More food, more water, more hugs and kisses, more time to play!"
"I'm so sorry Harmony." The young pup said softly.
"Then one day there were visitors and they insisted that the people give me to them immediately. They said that there was a foster family that wanted desperately to show me kindness and unconditional love. The Rescue people called Missouri Pit Bull Rescue, took me to my foster family's house that had a Mom and a Dad and a little girl. The little girl came to me and rubbed my head and knelt down so I could see her close up. She grabbed me around my shoulders and held me and kissed me all over. Wow, did that ever feel nice!"
"They took me to the Dr.'s and did their best to fix my broken body. Caring for me with their gentle hands, letting me take my time walking slowly to the bus stop to take the little girl to school. That was my favorite thing to do but it sure became hard to walk that far."
"What happened then?" The pup asked.
"Well, my body just got too tired, I was hurting all the time and finally couldn't walk anymore. They loved me so much and couldn't bear to see me cry and be in so much pain so they held me while I crossed the Bridge and became a doggie angel. My foster family said I would be able to walk and play and even run if I wanted to! Me, running again? Wow! I trusted them, and they were right. My pain is gone now. If the family had not given their time to help rescue a Mama dog like me, I would have never known the gentle kindness of a 'real' family. My foster family loved me even when my body was broken." |

 |
| Jeff, Sabrina & Jacinda, all of us that make up Missouri Pit Bull Rescue, want to thank you for the time and love you put into Harmony's everyday care. You gave of yourself unselfishly when so many before you used her for their selfish reasons. You made sure that she was as comfortable as possible during her most painful days.
We also want to thank you for having the strength to let her go when her body couldn't heal itself anymore. Your family is such a beautiful example of what Rescue and fostering homeless Pit Bulls is all about. |
