Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bull Dogs
SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP! |
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

| MPR WINTER FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN 2009 |
|
|
Please think about the homeless pets this winter and help us provide them with safe shelter in the form of an MPR mini-shelter.
For many of those sweethearts rescued from difficult situations, it will be the first time this holiday they have ever had safe shelter, a toy, a comfy cushion to lay on and tender loving care.... We can't do it without your help...

*** URGENT DOGS *** |
|
Those are "some" of the countless Pit Bulls held at the Kansas City Animal Control facility. Most Pit Bulls at the shelter are euthanised 5 to 10 days after their arrival, depending on their case and if not claimed by their owner.
Some of the Pits are selected to be candidates for adoption via "Halfway Home Pet Adoptions" and are given a little more time. Though the dogs are not part of MPR's program, we have been asked by the shelter to screen all applications for Pit Bull type dogs.
When MPR has room, we do our very best to pull Pit Bulls from the shelter. For the sake of our current dogs however, MPR can't bail dogs out until we make adoptions. Even if we could afford boarding (which we can't), we want to see our current dogs find loving homes before we bring more into the program.
MPR dogs have been evaluated and proven to have good disposition and stable temperament. They have been socialized, are receiving training and most of them are housebroken and crate trained. When a MPR dog finds a good home, it makes room in our program to rescue a shelter dog.
By opening your home to a MPR dog, you are saving TWO LIVES!
Once we bring in a new shelter dog in the program we can then proceed with proper temperament evaluation, proper training and socialization. |

| MPR ADOPTION EVENTS December 2009 |
|
|
MPR holds Adoption Events on a regular basis to allow the public to meet our dogs, talk to our volunteers about Pit Bull ownership, ask question and spend individual time with a dog they might be interested to adopt. |
Please email us if you want to know which dog will be attending posted event(s).
Some events may be cancelled in case of rain. |
| FOSTER HOMES NEEDED December 2009 |
|
|
Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00 a month |
Boarding is a life-saving option for the few lucky dogs we can afford to help that way, but we cant do it unless we receive financial assistance from people like you.
We have several programs available. Every penny counts! Become a Helping Hand |
|
As it is, we can't afford helping anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. In the meantime, our boarding dogs are in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull.
Boarding is a life-saving opportunity for dogs that have no other options. For dogs that came from a difficult situation, boarding is often a step up in life. But boarding needs to be a temporary solution. In order to find a home, our rescue dogs need to learn how to be well-behaved family companions. You can make a difference... PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts. They desperately need YOU! Become a Foster Home |

Protect Your Pet from Winter's Woes - As the cold winter chill descends upon us for another year, it's worth remembering that we aren't the only ones who feel the bite of Jack Frost nipping at our noses.
In many areas, winter is a season of bitter cold and numbing wetness. Help your pets remain happy and healthy during the colder months by following these simple guidelines provided by HSUS.

| Donated food helps pets and owners - In these days of economic woe, shelters and animal groups are meeting lots of pet owners who love their cats and dogs but are struggling to feed them. Several Northland animal rescue groups started the Northland Pet Pantry last spring to give pet food to those hurting financially and worried they may have to give up their animals. They're seeing more requests for help with pet food than ever before. |

MIDWEST CITY, OK - MWC dog appeals - A Midwest City couple is one step closer to keeping their dogs after a 2-Year battle with city officials. According to Jerry and Carol Stuckey, their trouble started when a city ordinance banned any breed of dog with the words "pit" or "bull" in their name. That means their bull terriers are not welcomed. "It's not the same dog and what's sad is if they really wanted to protect the residence of Midwest City they would have written an ordinance that protected them from any breed of dog," said Carol Stuckey. Earlier this week the Oklahoma Court of Appeals agreed with Stuckeys and claim city officials can't ban any breed of dog. "It's ridiculous to me that the City of Midwest City has spent thousands and thousands of dollars trying to take away a Spud-Mackenzie type dog. These are not pit bulls these are little bull terriers. It's absurd to me; I don't even know why they've done all this," said their attorney Scott Adams. But officials from Midwest City say this fight is far from over and are taking their case to the Oklahoma Supreme Court. |
Hot Springs, Arkansas - Animal ban dies at board meeting - Dog breeds commonly known as "pit bulls" received a reprieve from the Hot Springs Board of Directors Tuesday night when an ordinance that would have banned them from the city died for lack of a second. After the ordinance was read, District 1 Director Peggy Maruthur made a motion to adopt the ordinance, but Mayor Mike Bush's request for a second was greeted by silence from the board members. A second request by Bush for a second to Maruthur's motion drew the same response and when he declared the ordinance dead, the crowd of about 100 citizens on hand to voice their opinions. |
**ALERT** Hot Springs, Arkansas - The Hot Springs Board of Directors will consider an ordinance Tuesday night (December 1, 2009) that, if adopted, would ban ownership of "pit bulls" within the city limits. Board meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held at Board Chambers in the Hot Springs Municipal Building. The meeting is TONIGHT. Please send your POLITE AND RESPECTFUL opposition to breed specific legislation to the following city officials, City Clerk, Janet Heath at jheath@cityhs.net; City Manager, Lance Hudnell at lhudnell@cityhs.net; and City Attorney, Brian Albright at balbright@cityhs.net. Please also send your suggestions and viable alternatives. Time is of the essence, so please take action TODAY. |
speak! or rollover! the choice dog owners need to make - Know the animal ordinances in your town. Don't just be a good pet owner. Insist that your town hold all pet owners to the same high standards to which you hold yourself, whatever kind of dog they share their lives with. Breed specific laws are cruel, and they don't make our communities safer. Humane care of companion animals does. |

Precious Plum Blossom |
Plum wishes to have a loving family of her very own this Christmas.
She was obviously born to be an outgoing and happy dog so it really doesn't take her long to see the fun in all situations. She loves to play, goof around and show her silly side. She has a very puppyish personality.
Plum currently resides at MPR's shelter and she is doing very well. She definitely loves to be pampered and treated like a little princess. And what a pretty little princess she is.... Plum has the prettiest face and her coat color is quite beautiful.
Her personality is just as adorable as her appearance. She's a real little flirt and will win your heart in no time. Will you open your heart and home to her this Christmas and make her wish come true? Just look at that fantastic girl ... how can you say no? |

| FEATURED VOLUNTEER December 2009 |
|
Lindsey Hill |
| |
We're very pleased this month to recognize the hard work and dedication of our wonderful volunteer, Lindsey who has been an MPR volunteer since the fall of 2005. MPR has the daunting task of matching responsible homes to the dogs in our program for the best and most successful fit possible. Sometimes that’s not always achievable and we’re faced with gently informing potential adopters and that’s where Lindsey steps in and her skills are put to work.
Lindsey has the most difficult MPR task of gently informing potential adopters that a dog they have shown an interest in or may have applied for would not be a suitable match for their current lifestyle or a best fit for the dog. Lindsey rises up to the challenge and is indeed unbeatable when it comes to handling the delivery of such difficult news to a potential adopter.
Lindsey is such an asset to MPR and we are so very thankful to have her onboard. Thank you Lindsey!

Happy Updates are the fuel that keeps rescuers going.... |
UPDATE November 4, 2009 - I wanted to give you a little background on the pictures we sent. There is a few of him or him with us on a bed. That is his room, he is able to lay on the bed, look out the window (there is one with the window in the background and that's his view out two of those windows, one window in front of his bed the other in front of his kennel). Those windows he is able to look out: he is hilarious watching us leave and come home, his head is always in the window. I even admit to rolling my window down when I leave and wave to him. The neighborhood kids call him the "neighborhood watch dog" they see him peek out the window when they get off the bus and they absolutely love to pet him. :-)
Us playing with him in those pics on his bed is kind of a morning ritual, assuming neither of us is working we go in there and cuddle and play (the 3 of us).
The one of him on a little white cushion in front of a window is where he sunbathes in the summer (that one he was sleeping after our long walk).
The one of him in the KU Jersey looking out the window (my favorite) Josh loves KU.
One of me kissing him, I think I could kiss him every second of the day he is so cute, especially when his eyes and body get pink at night.
We walk him 2 times a day. I have morning shift and we walk/run about 1 hour and then Josh has night shift and they walk about 30 - 45 minutes. He is a motivator for us to get up and going for sure, I absolutely love it! He is sooo good about being patient and still when I put his gentle leader on.
We love to give him fruit and veggies as treats and he loves yogurt in his food. So he is a very healthy dog... comes along with having a mom as a dietitian I guess.
His name: Chazz Diekmann (fits his personality to a T) I like to call him Chazz the Spaz Diekmann.
We are so happy to have him in our family. Can't imagine life without him!
Thanks,
Michelle, Josh and Chazz |
