Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

*** URGENT DOGS ***
Those are "some" of the countless Pit Bulls held at the Kansas City Animal Control facility. Most of them will be euthanised 5 to 10 days after their arrival depending on their case and if not claimed by their owner.
Those dogs are not part of MPR's program. For the sake of our current dogs, MPR can't bail any of them out until we make adoptions. Even if we could afford boarding (which we can't), we want to see our current dogs find loving homes before we bring more into the program.
MPR dogs have been evaluated and proven to have good disposition and stable temperament. They have been socialized, are receiving training and most of them are housebroken and crate trained. When a MPR dog finds a good home, it makes room in our program to rescue a shelter dog.
By opening your home to a MPR dog, you are saving TWO LIVES!
Once we bring in a new shelter dog in the program we can then proceed with proper temperament evaluation, proper training and socialization.
Please... don't breed or buy while shelter animals die... If you want to save a deathrow dog, please adopt a MPR dog |

| FOSTER HOMES NEEDED June 2009 |
|
|
Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00 a month |
Boarding is a life-saving option for the few lucky dogs we can afford to help that way, but we cant do it unless we receive financial assistance from people like you.
We have several programs available. Every penny counts! Become a Helping Hand |
|
As it is, we can't afford helping anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. In the meantime, our boarding dogs are in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull.
Boarding is a life-saving opportunity for dogs that have no other options. For dogs that came from a difficult situation, boarding is often a step up in life. But boarding needs to be a temporary solution. In order to find a home, our rescue dogs need to learn how to be well-behaved family companions. You can make a difference... PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts. They desperately need YOU! Become a Foster Home |
|
It's that time of year when more and more Pit Bull puppies are being born into this world. For the average dogs the pet population is bad enough, but in the Pit Bull society, it's overwhelming! |
Even for adorable, innocent little puppies such as these...
|
If you have never been to an animal shelter during this time of the year then you have no idea what a huge problem this is. Many shelters have non-adoption policies on Pit Bulls. Not because they have a personal agenda against Pit Bulls... Quite the opposite, in fact. Those restrictions are put in place in order to protect the dogs. Sadly, because of lack of resources allowing the staff to screen applicants, the only way shelters can prevent these poor dogs from falling in the wrong hands is by instating a non-adoption policy on breeds that attract more than their share of abuse and irresponsible owners.
Pit Bulls rank #1 when it comes to bad owners' magnets. Hence why rescue groups such as MPR work tirelessly to help those dogs and find them the homes they deserve and solutions to this terrible tragedy.
In the meantime, more than half of the dogs in animal shelters are unavailable for adoption because they are considered Pit Bulls. This means that if a loving family goes to the shelter to adopt a puppy and if the puppy they pick is a Pit Bull they will be turnedaway. |
The only way a Pit Bull puppy will make it out of the shelter alive is if the original owner claims it back or if a Pit Bull rescue group is able to pull it out in time.
Problem is, a lot of times the original owners are the problem. The family or the breeder abandons the momma dog and puppies on the side of the road or they drop them off at the shelter, or simply allow them to get lost or stolen by lack of supervision. These people close their eyes to the over population problem and walk away not accepting the responsibility of their dog.
If MPR is able to, we pull puppies from local shelters before it is too late. The problem is so huge though that the majority of the puppies don't make it out alive. The public is not fully aware of the big picture either. Puppies are often kept in the back and euthanized quickly to avoid the spread of nasty viruses such as "parvo". So reality is hidden and not always in the face of those who need to see it.
Rescue groups only have so much space and when it's full we are left helpless to the puppies we see. To have to walk away from the cage of a baby Pit Bull that is nursing from it's momma, knowing that these babies won't make it out is a horrible feeling, one that Pit Bull rescue groups face every day. For these puppies sometimes it's only a few hours before it will be pulled away from its momma taken into a room and have a needle inserted into it's vein.
Please visit local animal Control and see first hand how bad the situation really is. See the countless pleading eyes watching you as you walk past their cages. Some of those dogs are new to the shelter and seem to not understand what has happened to them. Some others may have been confiscated and must endure a longer stay on death row. They know their fate and are jumping, barking and pawing at the kennel door trying to escape.
How is a baby deserving of this you ask?..... It's not.
This is just a little view into world of Pit Bull rescue and the fight we have on our hands every day. So take a little time and go to your local shelters. Look for Pit Bulls that are under a year old, and you will leave astounded at the cruel world that these dogs are born into. One that punishes them not because of a bad deed done, but because of their breed! Now try to close your eyes and not see these horrible images! Knowing that in 5 days the majority of the dogs you just saw will be dead, including the puppies ... just to make room for more with the same fate.

Roberta Shoemaker and Kevin Fields' 2-year-old pit bull terrier stood strong just inside the front door of their Oklahoma City home as an armed would-be robber fired three shots into him in December. Because of his protection of the home and his family, D-Boy and his owners were honored with the "People's Hero"award from The Humane Society of the United States in the second-annual Dogs of Valor Awards. In the people's choice category, D-Boy received an overwhelming majority of the 6,000 votes cast for 15 nominated dogs. |

How to let kids pet your dog - As we all know there can be some danger in having a child approach a strange dog and pet it. The Victor Valley Daily Press has a good story on ways to teach kids to pet appropriately as well as warning signs to be wary of. |
speak! or rollover! the choice dog owners need to make - Know the animal ordinances in your town. Don't just be a good pet owner. Insist that your town hold all pet owners to the same high standards to which you hold yourself, whatever kind of dog they share their lives with. Breed specific laws are cruel, and they don't make our communities safer. Humane care of companion animals does. |
TROY, MO - BSL PASSED - Troy board bans pit bulls, owners have 60 days to register current dogs - In an unanimous vote Monday evening, the Troy Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance prohibiting the ownership of pit bulls within the City of Troy.
In the ordinance, the board of aldermen 'finds that pit bull dogs are dangerous and potentially hazardous to the community because the breed possesses characteristics of aggression, strength, gameness, viciousness, predaceousness, unpredictability and savageness not possessed by other breeds of dog.' |
Tonganoxie, Kansas - Ordinance in dog house with canine owners - Since the early 1990s, the City of Tonganoxie has had a law banning Rottweilers and pit bulls because the city council found that "certain specific breeds of dog are by their nature of breeding prone to exhibit unpredictable and dangerous behavior." But Allen and others are now asking the city council to update the ordinance. Please send your POLITE AND RESPECTFUL opposition to breed specific legislation to the Tonganoxie, Kansas city officials . Please also send viable alternatives and suggestions for their consideration, as well. |
LINCOLN, NE - City Officials Look At Pit Bull Issue - Some residents suggesting that Pit Bull Terriers be banned from the city. City Councilman Jon Camp says members are carefully considering all options. "Whatever we do, let's do something that is subsitive in form. In other words (something) that is really going to get to the root of people's concerns. I don't want to put something in the books that's not enforceable just to quickly answer something," said Camp. Please send your POLITE AND RESPECTFUL opposition to breed specific legislation to the Lincoln, NE city officials at City of Lincoln, City Council, 555 S 10th St, Room 111, Lincoln, Nebraska 68508, Phone: 402-441-7515, Fax: 402-441-6533. Parker said that the police wanted to find its owner. "The resident wanted to know why the dog was not taken to the pound," Parker said. French also had his thoughts on the issue regarding pit bulls. "I've seen other communities ban pit bulls," French said. "We need to think about it." Please send your POLITE AND RESPECTFUL opposition to breed specific legislation to the Dixon, Missouri city officials at Dixon City Hall, 303 S Elm St, Dixon, MO; phone (573) 759-6115. TROY, MO - BSL in the works - At the city board meeting this week [5/27/09], officials in Troy, Missouri authorized the city attorney to make changes in the current dog ordinance which will lead to the banning of pit bulls and "pit bull breeds" from the city. The action is in response to citizen complaints of pit bulls running at-large. The changes would give a 60-day period in which owners of pit bulls in Troy must register their dogs. The dogs must also be microchipped and litters must be moved out of the city by eight weeks of age. Please send your POLITE AND RESPECTFUL opposition to breed specific legislation to the Troy, Missouri city officials.
