Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bull Dogs
SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP! |
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

*** URGENT DOGS ***
Those are "some" of the countless Pit Bulls held at the Kansas City Animal Control facility. Most of them will be euthanised 5 to 10 days after their arrival depending on their case and if not claimed by their owner.
Those dogs are not part of MPR's program. For the sake of our current dogs, MPR cant bail any of them out until we make adoptions. Even if we could afford boarding (which we cant), we want to see our current dogs find loving homes before we bring more into the program.
MPR dogs have been evaluated and proven to have good disposition and stable temperament. They have been socialized, are receiving training and most of them are housebroken and crate trained. When a MPR dog finds a good home, it makes room in our program to rescue a shelter dog such as the ones below.
By opening your home to a MPR dog, you are saving TWO LIVES!
Once we bring in a new shelter dog in the program we can then proceed with proper temperament evaluation, proper training and socialization. |

MPR would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the event planners, hosts, participants, sponsors and donators for the success of MPR's "3rd ANNUAL POKER TOURNAMENT 2009" event.

| FOSTER HOMES NEEDED May 2009 |
|
|
Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00 a month |
Boarding is a life-saving option for the few lucky dogs we can afford to help that way, but we cant do it unless we receive financial assistance from people like you.
We have several programs available. Every penny counts! Become a Helping Hand |
|
As it is, we can't afford helping anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. In the meantime, our boarding dogs are in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull.
Boarding is a life-saving opportunity for dogs that have no other options. For dogs that came from a difficult situation, boarding is often a step up in life. But boarding needs to be a temporary solution. In order to find a home, our rescue dogs need to learn how to be well-behaved family companions. You can make a difference... PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts. They desperately need YOU! Become a Foster Home |

The sorrow of Momma dogs.... |
|
| People often talk about the joy of watching the miracle of birth of puppies. This is particularly disturbing since we know only 1 in 600 Pit Bull born in this world will find a loving home. We know also, that nothing is more difficult than to find a home for a "momma dog". We currently have a few brave mothers in our program in dire need of a loving home. Spring Rain, Tiana, Cleopatra...
Some people believe that a female dog should have at least one litter before being spayed. There is absolutely no justification to that belief. In fact, the longer you wait before spaying a female, the greater the chances she will develop cancer later in life.
A pregnancy is extremely hard on a female dog. MPR has rescued countless mama dogs who had given literally all they had to their pups and were on the brink of death when discovered. It takes months for a female to recover after a pregnancy. And if you think you are doing the dog a favor by letting her experience the joy of motherhood, please think again...
Like humans, canines need strong social structure to thrive and survive. In the wild, puppies stay under the protection of the pack and their parents until they are old enough to survive on their own. Only then, when the dogs are about a year old, some youngsters will leave the pack and move on, though many canines stay with their family for their entire life. |
No six, seven or height week old puppy is strong enough to survive on its own. The dogs know that. Pulling an 8 week old puppy from a mama dog like humans do is like expecting a 2 year old baby to move out of his parents home, get a job and find an apartment. We are messing with nature when we remove puppies from their mother and siblings and place them in a home at 8 weeks old.
Dogs do not understand that we will be there to care for them. In the puppy's mind, he or she will die away from his "canine family", hence why puppies scream bloody murder the first few nights we bring them home. As for the mother, she has to witness her pups disappear one by one helplessly, and has no clue what will happen to them. We can't explain to her that the pups have found a new home and everything is ok. She believes they are getting lost and dying. Think about the emotional stress this causes a loving mother...
With Pet overpopulation causing more death than happy endings, and knowing that momma dogs suffer a great deal physically and emotionally when having and losing puppies, do we really need to add more puppies to this world so we can witness the miracle of birth? The miracle of birth when it comes to companion animals these days is simply a step towards euthanasia.
Please don't breed or buy while shelter pets die, Please Spay or Neuter your pet...... And please, please adopt a homeless Mama dog this month! |

UK - Dog called The Hoff saves owner from burning to death - A dog owner from the Forest of Dean has been saved from burning to death after his Staffordshire pitbull leapt on the bed to wake him. Nathan Williams, 29, owes his life to his dog "The Hoff" - named after Baywatch actor David Hasselhoff - who battled to rouse him as flames licked around the bedroom door. |

Rescued dog becomes rescuer - South Dakota - Pals and partners Eric Peterson and Eve, an American Pit Bull Terrier that he adopted through Pit Rescue of the Great Plains, have now completed search-and-rescue training through the Brookings County Sheriff's Department K-9 Search and Rescue program.
... Now Eve and Eric are ready to "give back to the community."
Smiling, he summed it all up, saying, "She was rescued; now she's ready for rescuing others." |
RICHMOND - Adopted Vick pit bull a happy survivor - Like many dogs introduced to new environments, Gracie was a bit hesitant when she arrived at Sharon Cornett's home in Chesterfield County. From the sights, sounds and smells in the kitchen to the layouts of the various rooms, Gracie needed some time to find a comfort zone. "She was a little bit shy," Miss Cornett said. "But she quickly discovered that sitting on the sofa was her most favorite activity." These days, Gracie clearly is comfortable with her home. She seems to relish her role as the official laid-back greeter when strangers visit, and if they spend some time being nice to her, it's only a matter of minutes before she snuggles up in their lap. |

TEXAS - Dangerous dogs bill all but dead - AUSTIN - With the final day of the 81st Legislative session quickly approaching on June 1, it is becoming clear that some bills will not make it to the Governor's desk.

Tonganoxie, KS - City council to look at changing dog ordinance - Good dogs with a bad reputation might soon be getting a second chance in Tonganoxie.
On Monday the Tonganoxie City Council directed city staff to look at reliable and impartial statistics on dog-related attacks to see if it needed to update its ban on specific dog breeds. This direction came after Casey Allen approached the council to get an exemption from the city's 16-year-old ordinance banning pit bulls and rottweilers. City staff will come back with the results of their findings at the next council meeting May 18. Please send educational materials and viable alternatives for their consideration. |
HAYS, KS - City discusses dog breed ban - Emotions ran high at Thursday's Hays City Commission meeting as commissioners discussed whether to ban pit bulls in city limits. After hearing from several residents, commissioners agreed to consider amending the city's current dangerous and vicious dog ordinance to include stricter guidelines. Please submit your polite and respectful responses of opposition to the breed ban to the city commissioners. Please also send educational materials and viable alternatives for their consideration, as well. |
| speak! or rollover! the choice dog owners need to make - Know the animal ordinances in your town. Don't just be a good pet owner. Insist that your town hold all pet owners to the same high standards to which you hold yourself, whatever kind of dog they share their lives with. Breed specific laws are cruel, and they don't make our communities safer. Humane care of companion animals does. |

SWEET SPRING RAIN |
Hi! My name is Spring Rain and I am looking for a new forever home! I am a sweet, blue and white female Pit Bull. I am several years old, spayed, vaccinated and HeartWorm negative. Oh, did I mention how incredibly sweet I am?
I was abandoned at the local animal shelter in obviously sad shape. I was emaciated, had a bad ear infection, a dull, nasty coat, sagging teats and was just a very tired and drained momma dog. The good people of MPR saw how absolutely sweet I am and decided to bring me into their program and help me get healthy and find my forever family. What a lucky thing that was for me!
I am a sweet, trusting, affectionate, loving girl that deserves to have a family love me for the rest of my life. MPR wants everyone to know that I would make a great fit for just about any family.
So, please open your heart and home for me this Mother's Day month and let me show you just how much love I have to give. And if you decide to give me a chance, I won't let you down.

Rob Chesser |

Meet MPR's Fantastic Volunteer, Rob!
Rob is MPR's Treasurer extraordinare. It's his responsibility to oversee the management and reporting of MPR's finances, along with keeping our organization licenses up to date, and various other related duties.
He also maintains MPR's servers in excellent operating condition, ensuring that we stay trouble-free and online.
If that weren't enough, Rob also graciously opens his home to temporarily foster dogs that have absolutely no where else to go until MPR can locate a longer-term placement for them. There's not enough room here to list every dog that he's fostered (and a few he's adopted) over the years. What is absolutely certain is that many dogs would not have had a second chance if it weren't for him and his willingness to house them temporarily.
Rob, your caring, hard work and commitment are such an asset to MPR and the dogs. We are so very fortunate and thankful to have you on board. From the bottom of our hearts ... thank you!

Happy Updates are the fuel that keeps rescuers going..... |
I thought you would like these photos of Miss Sahara...
She is doing SO well , and we just ADORE her. It was a really long trip to get her, but she has been a wonderful asset to our family of dogs. She loves my kids, she loves other dogs, she loves people, car rides and going places. She is a great hiker and we take advantage of our state park quite frequently. She has a best buddy as well, her adopted sister Flower (a pit bull , they simply adore one another. She loves her brother T-Rex (a Rottie) and her other sister Reece (a pit bull /american bulldog mix) as well, but she and Flower have a very special relationship. She thinks cats are pretty great too. She is doing well on special food and medication for her allergies and asthma. She is learning all kinds of new things every day, she has mastered light switches (turning them off and on), bringing the phone, opening the refrigerator, getting a drink, and closing the refrigerator door. We are working on getting her AKC CGC Certified so she can take a Therapy Dog class.
My family still can't understand why someone abandoned her in a yard to begin with, and then why someone didn't adopt her almost immediately, she is such an awesome dog.
Thank you , thank you thank you MPR and all of your volunteers for what you do. I myself work for a small rescue where I live and know all the effort you guys put forth, without people like you and me, these dogs wouldn't have a chance. Keep fighting the good fight and keep loving the dogs that others discard without thought, you really do make a difference!

Fri, Apr 3, 2009 NELSON UPDATE:
Things are going GREAT! Nelson has completely adapted to the house, our family and regular-visiting friends... He sleeps at the foot of our bed, has the free run of MOST of the house during the workday (and literally only has had one accident inside, and that was when I got home 2 hours later than usual). He has been an amazing addition to our family, and he and Blair (our 4 year old) are inseparable. If Blair is watching TV, Nelson is cuddled up nearby, and he follows Blair around the house, which is absolutely great w/ Blair. Hahaha
He loves walking around the park near the house and sits next to Ashley at Blair's soccer games... He does AMAZING at the soccer park, and we get a ton of compliments on how well-behaved and nice looking he is.
One of my New Year's resolutions was to get back into shape, so Nelson and I have been able to take 3-4 walks a week when I get home from work... He is great on the leash, and even when he sees a squirrel or rabbit, he doesn't try to go after it at all... It's very easy for me to walk him which is awesome! We just recently bought a new grill for the back patio, and we've been able to take advantage of some nice evenings of cooking out, and Nelson enjoys laying on the patio while I cook and Ash reads.
I really couldn't be happier with him!
Adam
