Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bull Dogs
SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP! |
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

Welcome to MPR. Our Mission is to promote responsible Pit Bull ownership, provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation, fight unfair legislation's, and find qualified homes for sound Pit Bull dogs in Missouri. |

*** URGENT DOGS ***
Those are "some" of the countless Pit Bulls held at the Kansas City Animal Control facility. When the shelter is full, which happens on a regular basis, Pit Bulls are often the first ones on the euthanasia list due to their high volumes and difficulty to place. If interested in any of these critical and urgent dogs PLEASE GO IMMEDIATELY TO THE SHELTER at 4400 Raytown Road in Kansas City, Missouri, 64129 to save their lives.
Though we do our very best to pull Pit Bulls from shelters everytime we can, we have no room to help all of those dogs. Each time we make an adoption, it opens the door to save a shelter dog.
MPR dogs have been evaluated and proven to have good disposition and stable temperament. They have been socialized, are receiving training and most of them are housebroken and crate trained. When a MPR dog finds a good home, it makes room in our program to rescue a shelter dog.
By opening your home to a MPR dog, you are saving TWO LIVES!
Once we bring in a new shelter dog in the program we can then proceed with proper temperament evaluation, proper training and socialization. |

MPR MINI-SHELTER 2011
MPR is so thankful for all the wonderful and exciting things happening this year. We continue to have astounding new additions to our volunteer group and new forever homes for our pit bulls in need. Our newest endeavor in 2010 however, was the establishment of a new and improved MPR Mini-Shelter.
The mini-shelter allows MPR to save more dogs from being euthanized by placing them in a temporary home until a foster home presents itself. In actuality it would be more accurate to call this oasis the Ritz Carlton of doggie shelters.
 |
At the mini-shelter a caretaker is there 24/7. We call this volunteer “The Den Mother” and our dogs couldn't be happier to have her there. She has even been known to get up in the middle of the night and sooth a new and scared soul back to sleep. |
 |
The dogs are kept in a home-like environment as the shelter is located in a private house. When the dogs are not resting in their crates, they have the opportunity to run around a whole acreage of fenced in yard! In addition to that yard, they also have a separate fenced in area that can be used to sun bath, play, or just hang out. When the weather permits, the dogs have access to extra large (10X10) outdoor kennels, complete with comfortable dog houses and Kuranda beds. |
|
 |
MPR Volunteers are on a feeding/exercise schedule which ensures the dogs get visited a minimum of three times a day. The happy gang spends time inside or on the patio cuddling on couches, running around the backyard, or playing with toys. All this attention helps the dogs learn house manners, master crate training, and socializes them so they can go out and be ambassadors for the breed. |
MPR's mini-shelter is a work in progress. We need your help to keep improving this life-saving Pit Bull resort in 2011.
We are asking for our supporters to consider making a donation to our mini-shelter fund. It is our goal to create a place of such comfort and happiness that the dogs in our program can’t tell their new forever home, from their old temporary home. Many of them have been abandoned, abused, negleted and have never nown love and goof care before arriving in our program.... One thing they all need is love and a comfy couch to cuddle on....
We look forward to an exciting year in MPR. Help us make 2011 a great one! |

MPR shelter is a life-saving opportunity for dogs that have no other options. For dogs that came from a difficult situation, a stay at the shelter is often a step up in life. But shelter life needs to be a temporary solution. In order to find a home, our rescue dogs need to live in a home and learn how to be well-behaved family companions. You can make a difference... Beatrice, Nebraska - Public weighs in on new animal ordinance Measure will require breed-specific laws for pit bull owners -
The city of Beatrice, Nebraska is considering an ordinance that would regulate the ownership of "pit bulls." It was suggested, and some council members seemed receptive, that the breed specific language in the ordinance be removed. Please send your POLITE, RESPECTFUL and INFORMATIVE letters to the Beatrice officials encouraging them to remove any reference to breed in the proposed ordinance, and to move forward with a breed-neutral ordinance.

| Kirksville, MO - Pit bull restrictions receive mixed reactions - Kirksville, MO passed BSL in March. The law takes effect April 1. The full ordinance may be viewed here. Pit bull terriers now are classified as "restricted animals" within the city of Kirksville, but owners have concerns about whether it can be enforced effectively. Beginning Friday a city ordinance will take effect and all pit bull owners will have to follow a new set of guidelines or obtain an American Kennel Club canine good citizen certification. |
Seward County, KS - Pits bulls or No pit bulls - Seward County, KS has had a breed ban since 1991, and recently passed a resolution that eliminated the grandfather clause. Now, a resident has requested a new grandfather clause or elimination of the ban. The county commissioners have mixed opinions about it, with some supporting repeal, and others opposing. This may provide an opportunity to encourage the county to repeal the breed-specific portion of their dog law. Residents and others are encouraged to send polite, respectful correspondence in support of an effective breed-neutral approach to animal control to guide the county administators and commissioners toward reasonable, breed-neutral revisions. |
| speak! or rollover! the choice dog owners need to make - Know the animal ordinances in your town. Don't just be a good pet owner. Insist that your town hold all pet owners to the same high standards to which you hold yourself, whatever kind of dog they share their lives with. Breed specific laws are cruel, and they don't make our communities safer. Humane care of companion animals does. |

In recognition of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, MPR wanted to do something a bit different for our Featured Volunteer of the Month by recognizing and being so very thankful for every one of our dedicated and hard-working volunteers.
MPR's volunteers dedicate so much of themselves and their time through fostering, fundraising, event planning, hosting and attending, application processing, screening, homechecking, web and server maintenance, providing breed education, transporting dogs, caring for MPR's boarded and shelter dogs on a daily basis, photography services, attending obedience classes, socializing MPR dogs, being available on an emergency basis to do whatever is needed and the list goes on and on ...
To all MPR Volunteers ... your caring, hard work and commitment are such an asset to MPR and the dogs that we wanted you to know we are so very fortunate and thankful to have each and every one of you on board. Thank you! You are all absolutely the best!

Reece is doing great. She is Kate's little princess dog. Today Kate went back
to school
and Reece spent the day lounging in Kate's bed. She was so happy when Kate
came home. I think she loves Kate and tolerates the rest of us. It took
Buddy about 3 weeks to accept her. The day it happened, I knew he loved
her. Now, they play all the time and their play has really evolved to a
fun, mutually respectful level. They played tonight for about an hour and
Claire and I just sat and watched them; it was so entertaining.
I do think she has some Visla hunting dog in her. She really likes running
through the woods at my parents. When spring comes and it is warmer, she
will have a blast up there. She definitely does not like the cold and I
don't blame her. She wears her coat if it is below 50. Her skin and fur
have improved, but she still gets red every once in a while. I love popcorn
and so does she. I try not to give her any, but I give in to her look. I
have noticed that she will develop a bit of a rash if she eats popcorn. It
goes away quickly though.
One funny story about her. Reece and Buddy were in the back section of our
expedition. It was night and misting. I was periodically running the
wipers in the back. All I could see in my rear-view mirror was Reece's head
following the wipers back and forth. It was hilarious. I was laughing so
hard. I had a car full of girls and they were all laughing too. She really
is a princess clown!
I promise to send pictures. Kate has some really cute photos of Reece.
Hope your 2011 is going great!
~Bonnie |

Yes, I did rename him. His new name is Duece (aka Slinky)....a friend of mine said it when we were brainstorming and I liked it other than that there is no real reasoning. Things with him are going great! My roommates love him and always want to play. I even got brave the other night and left him in my room without being in his crate for a couple of hours. He didn't tear up a thing,
I thought for sure he would find something to chew on after he got tired of his bone. But he didn't. I don't even think he moved off of my bed!
He has been so good! I have taken pictures of him but they aren't uploaded to my computer just yet so as soon as I get that done I will send you some...I have a hilarious one of him in a chair at my parents' house that you will love!
Thanks again,
Chelsa |
