MPR
Current Events
MPR
adoptions for June include
Indy, Rain
and Tango!
These lucky dogs found homes thanks to our supporters!
We are working hard every day to educate pit bull owners
throughout the Midwest about responsible pet ownership.
We encourage you to take opportunities to inform others
about the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Moving to a new home, having kids, allergies, or frustration
because a dog jumps the fence are not good reasons to
re-home or abandon a pet!! Shelters are filled with good,
loving animals who simply need understanding and a little
work to fit into their owners lives again.
There are solutions to these and other problems people
face with their pets. To find out more visit:

Society
We have adoption events scheduled for July 10 and 24,
please keep a look out on our web site for locations and
updates so you can come see our dogs for adoption www.mprgroup.net.
If
you are interested in volunteering at the event or, if
you would like to host or sponsor an adoption event, please
contact one of our volunteers at email@mprgroup.net

this a fantastic couple?? These two sweet and loving
dogs are great playmates and would make an ideal adopted

children, if you know a family who fits this description,
let them know about Jewel and Frodo! These two clowns
will provide some lucky family with hours of laughter
and cuddling. They can’t wait to get the stuffing
loved right out of them!
If

Breed Specific Legislation (BSL)
The
following are excerpts from an article
regarding BSL:
The
appearance of the dog - its hair, bone structure and size
- does not predict a dangerous dog. A dangerous dog is
the product of a combination of individual genetics, upbringing,
socialization, management and training. While [BSL] is
easy to pass due to the fact that certain dogs elicit
a fear reaction from the public, it does not address the
problem.
As stated by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers regarding
BSL, "Singling out and publicly demonizing certain
breeds as dangerous is unfair, discriminatory, and does
an immense disservice to those breeds and the people who
care about them. Even more chilling, breed-specific legislation
encourages the faulty public perception of other breeds
as being inherently safe. This can lead misguided individuals
to engage in unsafe conduct with other breeds that can
result in injury or death by individual representatives
of those breeds mistakenly perceived as safe.
"Also, designating certain breeds as inherently dangerous
implies to the public that behavior is not effectively
influenced, positively or negatively, by training. This
misconception will likely produce a growing number of
dangerous dogs as misinformed, complacent dog owners fail
to practice responsible aggression-prevention measures."
Any dog can bite, any dog can maim and any dog can kill.
I am arguing for holding owners responsible for the action
of their animals and against breed-specific legislation.

Volunteer of the Month
Suzanne
was an APBT breeder who came to realize that with so many
dogs dying homeless, now is not the time to add more.
She wanted to make a positive difference and joined MPR
in 2003.
Her expertise with the breed is very valuable and she
is a great source of general info about Pit Bulls. Suzanne
helps screen applications, conduct home checks, run adoption
events, and educate and influence back yard breeders to
spay and neuter their pets!

FOSTER
HOMES NEEDED!!
Summer is the season when we see an even greater increase
in abandoned and neglected pit bulls ending up in the shelters
and on the streets.
We have already rescued a stray momma pit bull but we could
not find her puppies. We have turned away 3 litters of pit
bull pups since then because we do not have foster homes
for them.
We encourage you to consider fostering for MPR. To learn
more about fostering, please contact us at email@mprgroup.net. |

Happy
Endings: An Adoption Story
Java
has certainly been a blessing to our family. We had lost
our beloved family dog of 12 years. Our children were
so sad. We were not sure we could love any other animal
the same. We met Java and instantly fell in love! She
definitely has a personality all her own. She is very
dramatic in EVERYTHING she dose. She likes to be in the
center of everything. She thinks she is one of the kids!
She is very protective of her kids. She knows when they
are hurt or just sad and need love. She is so compassionate.
She is better then we could have ever hoped for!
